Anybody else having problems with front hubs.

My 06 Silverado with 12,126. miles has already been through two sets and the dealer tells me it is not rare for this to happen on the Auto 4WD models .

I have never heard this before and Chevy at this point is not making me very happy . At $642.00 a pop thats over $1200.00 dollars for a truck less than a year old. SO far it has been under warranty but if I have this every 12,000 miles who needs it.. PS this truck is also on it's Third battery and second starter.

I have a 4x4 with the floor shifter. Truck is a 2002 with 65k miles. I still have the original battery, starter and both hubs. If this is common, I must be lucky.

If it was that common of a problem you'd see a ton of topics on this forum complaining about it.

My previous '99 GMC 2500 had auto 4x4. Traded it at 75,000 miles with original hubs.

Start checking into your Lemon law if you're having that many problems so soon.

we replace hubs now and then, but I wouldn't call it common, particularly at that low mileage. Something else going on there I suspect.

I hope that this is not a common problem. I suspect that they have replaced the hubs twice on the original poster's truck because they thought that the hubs were the problem, and they probably weren't. Something else is causing the symptoms, I agree.

Well I wish it was that simple, but actually the hubs have been the problem, in the first two the bearings had completely failed and exploded insided the hubs.

Today I got the great news that indeed yet another hub has exploded and the bearings again had failed.

Now the dealer is telling me it is because it was out of alignment, however after checking it closer that is not the problem. They are now saying I just got a bad batch, yet the work has been done in three different states and all at different dealers pulling parts from different warehouses??

Now to make matters worse it has caused damage and abnormal wear to the tires and I had been told there is nothing I can do but BUY new tires.

I will try one last time to get someone from GM to help before I give up.

Any suggestions on who I can call the dealer tells me they cant help any further.

Check into your state lemon law details. Consult a lawyer on this one. I think you should force GM to buy your truck back at full price or give you a new truck. Most states lemon law provisions require that at least three consecutive repairs to fix the same problem be done. If you have another hub failure, stick it to them.

1-800-222-1020. That's customer assistance. But I'll be honest with you, after graciously listening to your problems, they're going to call the dealer and speak with the service manager because he/she is GM's eyes and ears. They will believe whatever the service manager tells them in most cases.

They *may* offer you something like an extended warranty for your aggravation and the multiple repairs. If that would satisfy you, mention it and push for it because I can't say it will be automatic. They may also want to send you to another dealer for a second opinion, but since it's already fixed (for now), that would probably serve no purpose.

The lemon law is an option and mentioning this the customer service rep will definitely get a little more action. I don't know what the laws are in your state but as mentioned, 3 repairs for the same significant problem is usually enough to qualify. Here in Florida, once they file for that, the manufacturer gets one more shot at fixing it. Again, since it's already fixed, I don't know what they would do.

Oh, and I don't understand at all why this is happening. We don't have that many problems with hub bearings and certainly not three times at that mileage. Very odd.

Thanks everybody for your input, my truck is supposed to be ready late tomorrow so I will contact the Service manager and GM in the morning .

For me I would be happy with an extened warranty and tire replacement, going the Lemon law route means a lot of lost time and money on my part not to mention the many hours and materials that would be lost taking off the extras and options I have install since I bought in May.

Yes loss I know we all suffer when we make the additions to any vechile but we also normally expect them last much longer. I gotta give it one more boyscout try I still belive in GM and the hope they will make it right/

Thanks again

I have a 03 2500hd with 42k on it, never had any problems with the hubs or battery

This definitely sounds like an uncommon defect. Even if the problem is resolved after this repair, it would be a good idea to contact GM customer service. Have them open a case file and indicate that if another hub failure issue occurs, you plan to request a vehicle buyback under your state's lemon law. This will save you some time vs. initiating the contact at the next failure. The process is not too cumbersome and does not require a lawyer. The BBB handles the process here in OH and assigns an independent arbitrator if you get that far. I successfully got GM to repurchase a 2000 Blazer which had a recurring suspension issue and an accelerator pedal which would stick while driving. PM me if you have more questions.

I had a 2000 Silverado 2500 (170k) with the automatic transfer case, and there were never any problems with the hubs like that. Seems very odd to me.

Greetings,

Has the Xfer case mechanism been checked? If it stays in 4WD with no slippage, it could place excessive stress on the hubs, u joints, and gear case. If that is not the case, it would likely be no lubrication or too much torque pressure on the bearings

or some form of contamination.

Good luck,

bc

What does this mean? Have you modified the suspension in any way?

Contact the Better Business Bureau, they will represent you for free with the lemon law. Talk to them before you call GM's customer assistance line, you will get a lot more rythem from them with a BBB case number. Also make sure you have all of your documentation including dates for times you may have been to the stealer and received no paperwork. I just went through all of this, let me know if you need any other info. One last thing, when you call GM, BE NICE!!
