Can anyone advise me on how to go about wiring my Sirius Sportster SP4 unit in direct for Power? I have everything else installed and hidden well, just that silly 12V power cord in the Cigarette Ligher hole.

Thanks,

The easiest place to get accessory power is in the fuse box on the end of the dash board. There are 2 10mm bolts there that are great for ground, and if you look in the fuse box, the top row, there's a 25amp fuse directly over a relay. I believe it may be labeled "wipers". Just pull the fuse and use a fuse tap for power.

The Sirius unit is only powered by 5.7 volts, the power is reduced in the plug from 12v. to 5.7v. Do not remove the plug end from your unit and wire it into 12v. this will damage your unit. Instead install another cigarette lighter socket behind your dash out of sight, get your power from existing cig. lighter Got mine from Wally World for about $5.00

Hope this helps.

From reading the back of the unit I did catch that it was not 12 volts so I got a universal kit for $20 from Best Buy that reduces the volts on a hard wire from 12 to 5.7. My issue with using the exsisting cig connection behind the dash is that this is powered all the time and would still require me to power off my Sirius unit. This is what I am trying to avoid since I have already drained the battery once :driving:.

The specs on the kit I got is as follows for anyone else requiring the same info:

Universal Adjustable DC Adapter for 12V applications

works with Pioneer, Delphi, Audiovox, XM and Sirius satellite radios.

Part number is: RS-0001

the unit connects to 12V systems and then outputs a selectable range between 1.5 V and 12V.

The phone number on the package is 952-836-2311 and they are in St Louis Park, MN. The company is Hitchhiker Electronic Gear (Loon International LLC.)

Still using the fuse box to the left of the dash board as mentioned earlier you can find pins in there that only have power when the ignition switch it turned on. Use a light tester and go across the pins to see which ones have power constantly and which ones don't. Turn on your ignition and test them again. The ones that now have power is where you want to hook up this cigerate ligher assembly you have. Just remember to fuse the link between the pin and the cigerate lighter.

I can try to get a couple pictures of how I wired in a navigation system into my fuse box if you like.

Have a nice day.

there are time based features on sirius radio whereby they shut themselves down after a certain amount of time.. might want to enable that option.

Don't hook up to any fuse that could affect safety, like wipers, any head/tail lights. I usually go for the Radio, Dome, or other unimportant electrical component. Last thing I want to do is be driving and it start raining, and when I turn on the wipers it blows the fuse. Not that your system draws more than the fuse, you just never know.

Here are a couple pictures of where and how I wired into the left fuse box. They aren't the clearest pictures but they do give you an idea as to how you can wire in a constant hot or one that is hot when your ignition switch is on. Just use a circuit tester on each pin to find out when the power is there.

Have a nice day.
