Transfer case shift knob removal?

I have a 2002 chevy 2500HD automatic with 4wd. I have purchased a new shift knob to put on my transfer case shifter. I need to know how to get the old shifter off. Please help!

They usually only attach one of two ways. They either just screw on (you may be able to see what looks like a nut on the bottom side of the shifter knob) or there is a clip-type thing that needs to be pulled out, and the shifter knob will just slide off.

A friend and I figured it out. There was no screws, threads, or clips of any kind holding it on. We just had to wiggle it back and forth and lift up on it to get it off. It is just on their very snug. Thanks anyway.

Ah, so GM's getting even cheaper with them now !! LOL

I can tell mine has the clip on it. How the heck would you get that clip off, besides cutting the bottom 1/8" off the knob?

my friends was screwed on but we are pretty sure GM hired large silverback gorillas to tighten them it took a pair of vice grips with a breaker bar to get it off

Mine just pulls off it takes some affert but it finally came off

If I remember correctly just pull like a bast**d with a slight twist, I think they have a like a roll pin molded in the rubber.
