Coolant loss

I have had a on and off coolant loss. For a while I saw drips on the garage floor. Now, no drips but occasionally have to add a half pint or so. My ext warranty is almost up so I am bringing it in next Monday. They said they would pressure test it. How fine a test is that compared to the chemical and black light test? Will the pressure test find a really small gap in a gasket?

Do you have a block heater? Last week I was discussing a "small" leak problem with another chevy owner. After months of trying to locate it they found the block heaker was the cause. Funny....he didn't even know he had a block heater.

 

PS: He had the heater removed and put in a freeze plug.

What has a gasket leak have to do with dexcool vs prestone? You really need to go back and study some basic mechanics.

I don't have a block heater. I think from where I saw the drip last year it bay be the water pump gasket. I hear they sometimes cause a intermittent drip. It is at the dealer now, They should be calling me in a few hours.

They just called. Water pump leak and the block drain bolt both leaking. He told me $650.00. Luckily I got the ext warranty, it runs out Jan 17. He wants to sell the fuel injection cleaning for $135. Seems high to me??

The way I see it, cleaning the injectors can be done at any time seperately as well. So you don't have to rush to get it done and to pay $135.-

 

Never the less, I would probably let them do it.

I called the local mechanic that I know and he said $135 is what he charges. Since it is already there I told the guy to do it. Then my wife calls to tell me the wall oven is beeping and throwing a code, thats another story!
