steering column fix

I just bought my 06 GMC 2500HD and a week later I noticed the typical steering column rattle. I took it to the dealership with 1000 miles on the truck, and they made up some excuse about how its normal. I though that was pretty comical. So I took it upon myslef to fix it when I got home. All it took was placing a adjustable steel band on the housing at the location of the inner bearing where the intermediate shaft enters under the dash. I didn't want to bind up anything, so I just snugged it down. Its been rattle free for over a thousand miles now. I will try and post some pictures. It beats dealing with the dealership and its cheap.

I just bought a 2004 silverado that makes a knocking sound under the dash/hood when you turn or hit a small bump (streering column rattle), I test drove a 2005 and it did the same thing, is this a defect? :smash: Dealer says it is the streering knuckle needs greased or replaced - but if you really found a fix you might sell the idea to chevy - would like to see pics, thanks for ya help
