EPA Ratings

A relative of mine has a 2004 S-10 Crew Cab and I just bought a 2006 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab.

The smaller S-10 has a 4.3L V6 engine and the full-size Sierra has a 5.3L V8 engine.

Can you believe my Sierra is EPA rated better than the S-10?

The S-10 was rated at 15/19 and the Sierra at 16/20. A 2007 Sierra Classis is rated even better at 16/21.

A few of you might correctly notice that the S-10 was only available as a 4x4 and my Sierra is 2WD. But even a 2007 5.3L V8 Sierra Classic 4x4 is also rated at 15/19 which matches the S-10.

Can you believe that a compact truck with a V6 matches a full-size truck with a V8 for EPA ratings? Amazing...

as far as I am concerned we are going BACKWORDS when it comes to fuel economy. I just cant see why...

oh i should also note that some of the most fuel efficient cars arent even available in North America.

the Toyota Vitz (Japanese TOYOTA YARIS) gets 60mpg.. while the North American Yaris gets 34-39 MPG

the American Dodge Caravan gets 19-26mpg

while the European Dodge Caravan gets 24-40mpg

Small diesels in trucks and cars are commonly used all over the world and get amazing milage.. But there are very few small diesel engines available in North America. I dont even know of a single pickup that has a small diesel engine for fuel economy. Back in the 1980s they put small diesels in many trucks... but then when gas prices went back down in the early 90s the small diesels disappeared and big engines or small gas engines were only used.

:banghead: We have Emission crap :seeya: that the others dont, which greatly hinder MPG and power... Diesels in Europe couldnt work here because we need clean burners, not black soot all over...

Not saying I agree but that is why we get terrible MPG, there is a cost to everything... Clean burning engines need lots of power to push through cat converters
