ok guys - i'm looking to buy one of two trucks:

(1) 2005 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Z-71 - White, leather, bucket seats, steering wheel controls - 49k miles

(2) 2005 Silverado 1500 Ext. Cab Z-71 - Silverbirch, cloth, bench seats, steering wheel controls - 55k miles

Only differences are (that I can see from ads and pictures) is crew vs. ext. cab, leather vs. cloth, and bucket seats vs. bench seats. both are z71, have autotrac transfer case, both have steering wheel controls, etc...

Which would you suggest and how much should I expect to pay?

Hi Khaos05--For the crew cab which looks like an LT, $24700 retail, and $21250 trade in. For the extended cab which looks like an LS, $20475 retail and $17400 trade in. My perference is cloth/bench which I have had in all my Suburbans (currently 2001). Leather quickly wears on the outside edge of the drivers seat, and is easy to punch a hole in, when you get in with a screwdriver in your pocket. Price includes about $1K deduct for high mileage, and includes $3K for 4-wheel drive. For $4K difference I'd vote for the extended cab. Do you really need the slightly larger rear seat in the crew cab?--Frank Sub

Find one that has 4 wheel disc brakes.

Otherwise get a 2004.

:D

05 braking system is better.

I have an '05 and the braking system is a piece of crap. Technology is supposed to get better not worse.

4 wheel discs on my 2000 silverado....198,000 miles, 2 brake jobs.

front discs and rear drums on my 2005....33,000 miles about to have my 4th brake job.

Better my a$$.

My bros 04 rcsb step side 4x4 is easily 3x harder to stop in general than my 05 ecsb z71. While you are referring to maintenance I was referring to performance of the braking system. We were not on the same page sorry for not making that clearer.

To each their own...

I think my 04' Sierra with 4 discs suck bad!

Just opinion :smash:

Very true. I haven't had reason to complain about my drums. It was my understanding that the discs were replaced with drums b/c of lower costs and comperable preformance.

also have a 05 silverado and i heard another reason they changed to drums because of the parking brake...my brother has an 03 silverado and he has 4 wheel disc brake...and his brakes suck.

I purchase a 2005 Silverado Ext. Cab Z71 back in late December which came with the buckets and leather with 30K miles on it. It is basically loaded with everything but the rear sliding window and the sun roof and is powered by the 5.3 HO engine. This is the first vehicle I have had with leather seats and I am frankly surprised at how much I am enjoying them. They are heated which does help out a lot. I ended up with what I thought was a screaming deal, due to a dealer screw-up, which set the sell price at $20.7K

On the crew cab versus extended I think the real question is how frequently you will be using the back row seats and for who. I have an 11 year old and he rides comfortably there now but given him another 3 or 4 years and I think it will become tight for him. In my case the occassions where I have 3 in the truck are relatively few so I decided I did not need the crew cab and could live with the extended. I also think the box is shorter on the crew cab which is something else you should consider if you plan on hauling.
