I think its time for them to finally get replaced. I have 79000 on my truck but its weird it always smells like antifreeze but when i check levels it appears not to have burned any. But then every once and a while when i pull up on my driveway which is on an angle i will get a little spot towards the back of the engine where the truck had sat. Has anyone ever replaced these if so whats teh estimated time???

I wouldn't replace those gaskets until I had to.

Check the passenger side on the top of the intake manifold, the aluminum pipes for the heater...Those frequently start to leak, and leak slowly. It will sometimes run down the back of the engine and drip out from say...The bell housing area. The problem is usually when you touch a wrench to the fitting, it's so corroded, it just snaps off...Leaving you to dig it out of there.

Or am I thinking of a different year....No...I'm pretty sure it did it on the '99s too.

I have same problem with my '98 Yukon. Sometimes smell antifreeze and every once in a while there is a small puddle where I park. On mine though it appears to be dripping from the heater lines on the passenger side inner fender....when you look in passenger side wheelwell you can see antifreeze on outside of frame behind tire and sometimes drips hanging off inner fender.

Also I have changed intake gaskets on small blocks and a few vortec 4.3s and it really isn't that bad of a job. Most can pull it off in about 4 or 5 hours.

The IM Gasket is a pain in the butt. After a long talk with my radaitor guy, he tells me that the Dexcool is a good product, however it has to be maintained, the ph has to be balanced every 6 months. If not, you have a product that will gum up the radaitor and eat gaskets. The eaisest way to handle it is to flush the system, replace the gaskets, and refill with green stuff.
