transfer case whine

Just purchased a 2005 2500 HD with 15,000 miles and electric shift transfer case. Drives fine in 4WD but is very loud "whine" noise that comes on immediately upon shifting into 4X4. Could this be fluid issue? I must admit this is a rebuilt that had verifed fresh water damage. Other than some infrequent auto trans shifting issues (I assume related to electronics, usually shifts flawlessly), this is the only problem with truck (I have put about 1500 miles on truck since purchased and has had 2000 since rebuild, was a professional rebuilder). Rebuilder indicated all fluids had been changed. Any ideas to stop the whine? Could this be a more serious issue?

4HI should not make much noise at all. 4Lo yes. I would check the fluid level and if it is fine, I would take it back to the rebuilder.....something is not right.
