Ticking noise under dash???

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 94 Yukon GT. Everytime I turn the truck on or off there is a ticking noise coming from under the passenger side dash. It's 7 or 8 consecutive ticks followed by a one second pause followed by the 7 or 8 consecutive ticks. This goes on for about a minute almost everytime I turn the truck on or off. I can stop it by turning the heat/ac on full blast ( but this is only when the vehicle is on). I can't control the ticking when the vehicle is turned off. It's obviously climate control related.

Does anybody have an idea as to what this problem is???

Thanks for the help.

Heating and vent system blend door or mode door actuator as it may also be known. Common problem, and I do not think there is a quick easy fix for it... My 92 K1500 also provides a tantalizing beat for moments at start up and shut down.

All i know is if I heard a ticking sound coming from under the dash (or anywhere for that matter) I would be outta that truck in a hurry...who knows, you might have pissed someone off and they put a bomb under there...

Thanks for the help. Any idea as to how much a repair for this problem would be?

It appears the R&R of the unit comes in at a 3 hour job. I do not have a part number for pricing purposes. Call you favorite local shop and see what info they can provide you.

I have been asking around about this same problem. My truck is a 94 1500 work truck. Its really embarresing to start or shut the truck of in an area where others can hear it,lol. Everyone looks at you with this look like your engine is about to blow. I looked at some new (used) trucks today but i sure cant trade this one in with it knocking like it is. Just like the original post says it is under the pass. side dash and does the ticking or knocking for about 45 seconds every time you start or turn off the truck.
