Toolboxes for the bed

I am looking for a silver(chrome or w/e) toolbox for the truck bed. I need somewhere to put my waders when they are wet and muddy besides the back seat in the ext. cab. This is why I decided against the under seat storage bin (b/c they are too big). I also would like to get one with a gun rack inside so I can put it there when I'm going hunting.

Is there any specific brand I should get? Should I just go to lowes or home depot and pick one up or will I regret it?

Lastly, I wondered what you guys thought of the pros and cons of the "low-profile" toolboxes...

Not sure about the first two, but I like the low profile boxes. Have one in my z71 that comes right up to the top of the bed. I like it because I can park a quad on top of it and still close the tailgate!

Wal-Mart has these nice trunk boxes 14$ and two carriage bolts later I have a tool box in the bed of my truck. Negatory on the Gun rack though, lest it's sawed off or a pistol. I wanted something to put tools, tow strap, tie downs, coveralls, chain, come-along, jump starter, flashlight, receiver, bungee cords...

Key here is 14$. Much more wallet freindly than 200$ and up. I'll make a few sacrifices for that kind of savings.

I ended up with the diamond plate low profile truck box from Sam's club which was $137....about half price of the Home depot one at $225. Both are lockable and have the gas struts to help you open the top and keep it open.

I have a delta low profile diamond plate tool box. I like the fact it doesn't obstruct the view out the back window. Doesn't leak like some I have seen from. Just don't try and use it as a seat. Person installing rear sliding window did and slightly bent the top now it opens a little harder.

Look on cabelas for gun racks. They have these really cool ones that mount under your back seat or above them on your headliner.

I have a full size deep well box. The thing is big, large enough to hold a chopsaw and still be able to close the lid haha. It's from Northern tool and it's just big enough to hold all my tools minus the ones in big boxes.

I do NOT recommend getting the gas struts though, I hate the ones on my box cause it makes it hard to close and if it doesn't latch completely it will open up when I hit a bump or something. I've seen one or two trucks like that, and they all had the "gas struts" sticker on the inside.

I just dropped in Lowes "Kobalt" low profile aluminum diamond plate tool box . Picked the Kobalt (made by Daws Manufacturing Better Built ) for a few reasons , no obstruction of view still have 8" of full 8' bed acess under it, so I can close the tail gate with full sheets of plywood; nice adjustable locking system can open from either side, and single piece top lid (not gull wing) so long items can be placed in. They even make a "no drill" tool box cleat system for it. Another nice add on (that you can do with any " LED head lamp" is a tool box internal lid light. AT night you cant see a thing when the lid is open so Daws Better Built took a LED head lamp took the strap off and made it as a tool box light . The LED lights are bright as hell, and the 3 AAA battery last for ever in them compared to Non LED head lights
