Hey guys i am new to the site and just bought my first truck last November. This past week I got to try out the 4-wheel drive on it in the snow and my question is; today i was leaving a parking lot that was all ice and I had it in 4-wheel, then i go to make a sharp turn to get out of the parking lot which was not snow/ice covered anymore and it felt like the front was biinding up. My only guess is that it is a locker in the front?? But in any case i hope i didnt damaged anything, cause she didn't wanna go when i had the wheel cranked and gave her gas!! Any thoughts would be great thanks a lot

Did you have it in auto 4WD, 4HI or 4LO?

That's pretty normal when you have it in 4wd and make a turn on dry pavement. The front wheels are making a big circle; rear wheels are making a smaller circle; 4x4 makes them all turn at the same speed. So something has to slip.

 

Not a good thing to do on a regular basis but once or twice won't hurt your truck.

The HD's are not AWD so you should only engage the TC when you need it and go back to 2H as soon as you hit dry pavement.

It was in 4HI, I don't have the auto option. So is it basically like what a locker would be in a jeep?? Yeah I could feel the tire wanting to slip. I hope I didn't mess anything up

I doubt you messed anything up. As mentioned above, the odd time won't kill your time. But I wouldn't make a habit of it.

You had your front axle locked (4H or 4L) to your rear axle and when you turn, each wheel makes a different arc and covers a different amount of ground. With 2 wheels (one front and one rear) locked together, you forced them to spin the same amount (even though they covered a different distance) so one had to slip. The front travels a shorter distance so it slips. You should be just fine. Folks do this all the time with no ill effects.

 

Just don't do it allot.
