Titan vs. LBZ

My buddy recently purchased an 06 Nissan Titan ext. cab. I think it has the 317 HP version in it, not sure, don't care. He is dead set that he can outrun my truck (in sig). Both are bone stock, but I am sure I outweigh him by at least 1500 lbs. I know both trucks will run low to mid 15's in the quarter mile but my truck feels quicker. I am sure my 0-60 time would be better. My defense is that I am pushing more HP/lb of truck, I just bury him on torque and I also have six gears instead of five. The question is can I beat him? I would sure like to put him in his place. Are these two trucks close enough in performance to just make the difference in the drivers? I will definately launch in 4wd with some boost built up. That should eliminate the turbo lag issue (there is not much with the LBZ anyways). I would rather keep it a war of words than lose. Even better, I would like to just beat him. We won't be on a track and we will definately not be racing head to head. We have an abandoned stretch of highway back in the hills with the quarter marked on the pavement. Probably just take the best of three runs for each of us and compare. Nothing to extreme. No accurate way to get 0-60 times but could run 1/8 mile also. Should I run him?

When in doubt...get a tuner!

I'd race him, because it should be a good race. If you loose blame it on something (even if you lost fair and square) and buy a tuner. Then race again with 125+ more HP. Look at the bright side, you can put the chip in economy mode when your not racing and get better mileage and probobly +40hp. Diesels amaze me... :D:loser:

If your truck feels quicker and weighs 1500+ more lbs, thats only good news. To be honest I dont know who would win, it should be good.

Only one way to really know....run him.

Let us know the results...whether good or bad.

just chip it and wave goodbye haha. but no seriously it will be a close race stock for stock but you have a turbo and like 600 lbs ft of tq. plus add a bullet proof 6 speed you have an edge in being able to hit your powerband thats forsure. i say race and i think you will win that titans quick but no match for a duramax! :loser:

Well, it was kind of a redneck race, but it worked. We decided to go head to head, for the bragging rights. By the way I am not going to make a habbit out of it because I was nervous as hell. 1/8 mile, was a Titan for lunch. I launched in 4wd, so I could keep the tires hooked up and torque braked about 20 psi of boost. When we launched, I immediately jumped ahead and left him a nice black cloud to choke on. I would say 2 to 3 truck lengths. Next was the quarter, and it was much closer. I am sure he just jumped into his power band at the higher rpms and started gaining fast just before the finish. I still beat him by a truck length, but any more distance and I think he would have started to walk on me. I did not dare look down at the speedo. Bottom line is that I won. I am sure my 0-60 time was a heck of a lot faster. Like I said both bone stock. The juice with attitude would have been nice, because I would of had time to stop and drink a beer before he crossed the line. It was almost apples to oranges, but he asked for it. I had to impress him even more afterwards and nailed it in 2wd. I was sideways through the first three gears. He tried it, and broke loose a bit, but the cool factor was not even close. Now I am curious. If you took an 07 Tundra (381 HP 5.7L) crewmax and added enough weight to it to equal my truck, could he beat me? They are supposed to be hella fast. Oh well, I think my days of racing a 7200lb truck on back roads is over with.

:confused::cheers::lol:

Tundra's run mid 14's stock, add 2,000lbs in the bed, I dont think they'd keep up. It might who knows, but I dont think it would keep up.

Nice kill dude.....I dont want to hijack your post but I had the same situation except my friend was talking smack that his LBZ would work me over. Same truck as yours but its a long bed. When I bought my truck and I told him it was pretty quick, he laughed and always made comments about how he would smoke my ass. He has a handheld programmer that adds like 100lbs of tq..Well it finally went down and he promised me he would run me with the stock tune. So after he boosted up and launched on me like 1 full truck.....I freight trained his ass and walked by him like 4 trucks in the 1/4. When we stopped his jaw dropped and then I told him I was ready to race him with his performance setting. Yeah..........It was already in performance mode........He was speechless!

By the way I would have went diesel had they not have been 10,000 more! I think those LBZ are the nice! In fact when my son hits 18 in about 7 years I will give him my truck and I will be going deisel!!!!

Wouldn't even be close. Although to be fair, no gas engine in any vehicle would. You would out run a vette if you added enough weight to him.

I dunno I think if you put the 427 in a similar HD truck it would probably out run the duramax on the high end. When that 7.0L starts to screem to 6k rpms it would be a freight train. Obviously wouldn't pull as good though.

    • There's some truth to the above, but also, she's selling fullsize trucks and bread/butter CUV's like hotcakes, meanwhile, extracting GM's pickups from the deep discounting sales game.   GM's stock has held its own during her tenure, and the more recent buybacks are delivering cash back to investors and signal confidence in their direction forward. Even with the EV losses.   GM is an example of a modern publicly traded company. The #1 goal of any publicly traded company is to deliver the most value possible to shareholders. Despite being a car company, building the best car isn't GM's path to delivering maximum shareholder value.   McDonalds doesn't make the best burger, or the best coffee.   I've mentioned in another thread, I really don't / won't ever understand Cadillac or Buick in a modern context. Both brands are completely dead to me. I'll cede that the Escalade is a nice SUV, but the brand and nameplate mean nothing to me, and GM will never persuade me to pay north of $170k for a gussied-up Tahoe or Burb. Other people don't mind doing that and that's their purview.   The C8 shares absolutely nothing in common with any other current Chevrolet or Corvette on the market. Since its introduction 8 years ago, it's developed quite the following. It did what other Corvettes couldn't do: reduce the average age of its buyer. GM has something there, and I see them investing in the car. They'd better not mess that up.   We've successfully derailed Grumpy's thread again, but I think this one is meant to be more of a random thought thread so a little wandering is probably OK.
    • Sliding doors ftw   Also, Sienna ftw as well.  The in-laws got a 2024-2025 recently when their 2019 sienna was totaled due to a deer back in June.  They've been getting 38-40mpg on the 65mph highway they live on.
    • Forgot to mention that this started after changing the oil I use mobile 1 full syn with mobile one filter but I did add pro lube additive and was the first time doing so and is making me wonder just can't see why that would matter
    • I apologize for long post put going to try to explain everything. Parts replaced so far: Cam sensor Crank sensor Cam phaser valve Cam phaser solenoid Fuel pump Maf 1 injector Pcm Pdm   So about 2 weeks ago coming off the highway my 2007 yukon xl with the 6.2 stalled and would restart. Had unit towed back to house and I messed around with relays and unit started. Drove it the next day and same thing. Had it towed again. Scanned unit and had code p0300 with misfire data showing mainly cylinder 7 but I know that won't cause a no start. Measure fuel pressure and found only 42 psi replaced pump to have unit stall again and not restart. This time I stayed on back roads and just waited for it to restart about 30 to 60 min. During this time I found I have no injector pulse but have good power at injectors. Started unplugging 1 injector at a time and found when unplugging cylinder 7 pulse came back so i changed injecto and same issue. Turns out unit just happen to ready to start at that time. Scanned into unit and found no reason for the pcm to take away injector pulse so I replaced the pcm and same issue. I figured timing sesnor controlled the injector pulse so I replaced both sensors and while I had the water pump of i replaced the vvt components while i was in there. Read multiple people have luck chaging the maf for this issue so I changed it. Unit still stalls to this day and loses injector pulse on the ground side when it does. Have noticed watching the live data the pcm is request injectors to fire via injector pwm value. I have redone the ground wires at the left bottom of the block knowing this was the ground location for the pcm but still no luck. I am a mechanic by trade but this is having me pull my hair out. If anyone has something to have me check I will gladly im not much of a parts thrower but im about to load the cannon
    • Actually.  Wait.   I just re-read your original post.  Are you talking from INSIDE the truck you have to hit unlock?  Or from the key fob?  I had assumed from the key fob.   IF you are talking the inside unlock button, I assume you are shifting to park and its not unlocking the doors?  If so, that is changed via the settings page in the radio.  Go to SETTINGS, then VEHICLE and then it should be under LOCKS or DOOR LOCKS or something like that.
