Well you can right now, if your racing a 4x4 or QC ram, since your driving the lightest full size truck in the market.

 

Plus if you come across one that doesn't know how to race with the TQ management then you have a better chance.

so u are telling us that you can not beat a hemi...is the truck stock as well as your? i have a 2005 gmc sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and the 3.73 gears. i have a 5 inche lift sitting on 295/70r/17. now i do have a grantelli (sp?) motorsports programer on it. but the hemi had not chanc he was a little quicker off the line but he only got about a 1/2 car on me then i blow his doors off at 100...and yes i know about the gonver but i moved it to 140 just to see.

You should be close now. The quickest ways to get more power are a cold air intake, exhaust, and a tune. Go with a custom tune, like westers or wait4me.

Well my wife drives an 04 QC hemi 4x4 ram, with just a CAI, and I have an 02 Chevy EC 5.3 4x4, with a custom tune.

As much as i hate to say it the Ram will beat me every time. Even more so from a 20 mph roll.

 

Now the key thing about the ram is you need to know what gears it has in the back. Mine has 3.92, but most have the 3.2? something, which will make them a lot slower. My Chevy has the 3.73 just for reference.

This might sound a little backwards, but from my experience of driving countless Ram's the Quad Cab Hemi's tend to be faster than the standard cabs. I don't know whether its the gearing in the QC or whatever, but they tend to want to spin the tires more and they just feel faster.

Trade it in on a Duramax!! Seriously, a Westers tune, a good exhaust and high octane should do it.

This is probably the biggest factor here - gearing. Put a set of 4.10's on your truck and you'll launch harder. You lose some top end, but the speed limiter kicks in before you'd hit that anyway. No amount of tuning is going to overcome over-tall gears due to the weight you're pulling. If you can do both, then do it as they compliment each other.

 

I've done a lot of the mods spoken of already, and it's only moderately effective. My next step is going to a 4.10 gear to replace the lethargic 3.42 set. This will make accelleration much better, but also improve my towing performance (which is primary reason I'm doing it).
