Looking At A '00 Silverado

Recommended Posts

I've been casually looking for a truck for a little while and I finally found what I want. It's a '00 ext cab 4-door Z71 stepside. More difficult to find than you'll believe. Anyway, the biggest problem is that the truck has 160k miiles. So I was wondering what kind of reliability issues I should look for. I know the 4l60e isn't the greatest tranny in the world, but what is there besides that? I had '99 ext cab 2wd a few years ago and I loved the truck, so I'm looking at getting something similiar. Oh, and if someone could hook me up with a build sheet / RPO codes, that'd be great too.

VIN: 1GCEK19T8YZ256672

Thanks

Just bought a 00 1500 ext. cab 4x4. Many of the trucks i looked at were in the 150-180,000 mile range. The one i just got has 107,000 miles. Not sure if i got a good deal but i think i did. Its a LS with power everything but seats, matching fiberglass topper and a toolbox. Paid $7000.

If you take the VIN to a dealership they can print you a option sheet of what your truck came with. Shouldnt cost anything.

Carfax is saying that the "last reported mileage" was higher than 160k.

It's being sold by a dealership, so I wonder if that's the last report. The guy I talked to on the phone said 160k. How much more is carfax saying?

Michigan250HD: It sounds like you got a great deal on that truck. I'm just running into problems finding a Z71 ext cab stepside.

Mileage was last reported on 11/28/2006 and showing 175,165 miles. It was sold at auction in Missouri on Jan 2nd and listed as a fleet vehicle.

Drop me a PM if you want the whole listing

If you're skeptical on the mileage, take the VIN to a dealer service department and see the last recall/goodwill etc GM performed. At the dealer I worked at, we found a few mileages rolled back...it's very easy to replace a cluster!

Especially when it's a "fleet vehicle", and you have lots of them laying around.

On these trucks I wouldn't be too worried about something that's got that many miles. A driven truck is a happy truck. Just take a close look on bottom edges for rust, under the doors etc. Look for hoses that might need replacing, and corroded wiring. Ask them if you can take the truck home for the night, as most places are so desperate to get rid of used trucks they'll let you.

take a piece of masking tape and put it over the odometer. Look at the truck, upholstery, dash, body, etc. The 4l60 e is a great box but any trans is a wear item and can quit. I would rather replace the trans than have a shot interior.

I have an 00 and it has 120000 on it and it is nearly flawless. If the trans quits tomorrow, I will replace it and be happy. The best trans on the planet, the 4l80e, will eventually wear out.

Anyway, look at the whole truck. I love mine.

Also check and make sure its not a flood vehicle from hurricane katrina that wound up in Boulder CO. Try and look up under the dash with a flashlight, under the carpet or flooring for rust and try and see where the truck was sold from (dealer) when new.

I just looked at one last week, 99 step side, 4x4, z71,4.10 gears...etc. I wanted that truck but it was at about 160,000 miles. and they wanted $9500. I drove it and it was a sweet truck with tons of power with the 4.10 gears. In fact every step side i look at has 4.10 gears. I told the dealer i was intrested if he would fix a couple things and drop the price a little but he never called me back. Didnt look to see where you live but i am sure you will find one.
