Changing Stock Radio

I am getting ready to change out that stock junker radio and put in a Sony CDX-GT81UW. What will that do to the OnStar garbage that is in there?

Onstar wont work anymore unless you get an interface kit for it.

So the stock Delphi radio is junk and the Sony is quality? Thats a good one. Sony car audio has been bottom of the barrel for a long time.

If your going to go as far as saying the Delphi is crap at least replace it with a good radio like a Alpine or Eclipse.

take some pics please of how you get the radio out. I have to pull mine in order to install my loc converters for my subs. Like the other guy said aftermarket radios/speakers aren't as good as most would lead you to think imo. I think it's just a bunch of propoganda to get kids to spend money they don't need to be spending. subs on the other hand make a much more noticable difference.

Yup JUNK. I find Sony beats that mess hands down. I've always used Sony and always will. GM stock radios aren't worth my fooling with.

If you think Onstar is junk then why do you care if it's going to affect it? I changed out the stock radio in my 02 and didn't worry about hooking the Onstar back up. It won't hurt a thing....

I agree go with apline, eclipse, or pioneer better equipment imo.

I think that 10 years ago changing your stock system to an aftermarket made a world a difference, however every year there coming out with better sound just with the stock system. For the amount of money it costs the difference won't be that big. However if you got the cash aftermarket will be the best. Imo though if you go with the slt or ltz the sound quality is great and not worth upgrading. The nicest thing about the aftermarket deck is how much more adjustments you can do over the stock system. And the other bonus's were the mp3 capability but the 07s have that as well. Expecially if you get subs too so you can fine tune the bass. And don't forget if you change it i could be wrong but pretty sure you'll lose your six disk changer if you have it as well as probably the ipod input. And yeah like others said you'll lose your onstar as well....good luck with it get some pics up when your done.

I disagree about the sound difference. I'm proof that good aftermarket equipment is far superior to what came in the truck from the factory. I could care less about the onstar equipment, I've never subscribed to it and I've never used it. If it wouldn't have been part of the LT package I wouldn't even have it. As far as hooking up an Ipod to an aftermarket head unit that's easily done w/ most of the good ones on the market and if you care to drop a few more bucks you can even get the bluetooth models at fairly decent prices. Everyone knows that those paper speakers are crappola as well. If you're not worried about keeping onstar functional then just don't hook it back up....it's easy to do.

I was just refering to the newer models. As far as the 00-05s the sound quality was poor, but listen to a 07 slt its actually not bad for a stock system but thats jmo.....
