Gee Wiz Question

Why is it that it takes longer to shift into overdrive when the weather is cold. Warm it up for a few minutes or not it always takes a couple miles to get into OD when at highway speed...but in summer it will go into OD without fail. Does the fluid have to be a certain temperature before going into OD?

I recall reading something in the manual that says when the transmission is really cold it changes the shift points to warm the engine faster. I may be wrong, but I think that is why it is.

Yeah, that's my understanding too...It holds the gears longer, and (I think) increases line pressure during shifts, it probably bangs into 2nd when it's cold too, doesn't it?

She shifts just fine and smooth when it's cold out. That was my thought also, holds the gear to keep the rpms up until the motor get's to a certain temp.

trans temp needs to be about 100* before it will shift into od.
