The fuel monitor says my avg is about 18L / 100KM.

I've only got 1300KM on it. (600 Highway, the rest city)

I haven't exactly been easy on the pedal with this new truck either...Testing the 6.0l's torque, tranny shifting, interior cabin noise.... you know,, all the stuff you microanlyse the first month you have a new truck...

So here's the setup:

2007 Sierra SLE GMT900

Ext Cab. Reg Box

6.0L Max, 3.73RR, Locking diff

20" GM Wheels***********

Now someone answer a newby Question. WTF is an NBS? I've seen it in the title of a bunch of threads but can't find anything to decode it. Is it a nomenclature for certain body styles like LB7, LLY and LMZ are designations for Diesels?

I was confused for a while with this as well

NBS = New Body Style

easy i know what you know what it is haha

and from what i'v heard its going to range anywhere from 13 to as good as 16 and 18 19 highway. This is obviously varying by how its driven...

Big tool has 4.10s and was getting like 14.5 i believe before he changed tires and got a tune. Do a search i made a post and there was a few others a little while back. Also go to the vmax link brings you to another forum with a few more posts regarding the new 07 vmax's good luck.

Another question is how often you run in 4cyl mode? I have heard from others that the AFM is a joke in trucks and works only when going downhill with a tailwind.

Yes, that's my experience during a test drive, the AFM only kicks in when going downhill, or when you let off the throttle. Not exactly a time when significant fuel savings will be noted.

With any luck, Active Fuel Management will be eliminated during a cost-cutting phase, because I would much rather have the reduced complexity. A six speed tranny would've been a much better investment for fuel savings.

Another good indication that AFM is not worth the investment -- we're certainly not seeing many other manufacturers jumping on the Displacement On Demand bandwagon.

17-18 max highway. aver mixed anywhere from 14-15 maybe less depending on driving conditions and winter or summer blend fuel used. Hoping it moves up with summer blend, which I think it might. 4Cly mode is hardly ever in use. Doesn t do much. Getting PCM tune soon. That should increase my numbers. I ll let you know.

Im averaging 15.1 MPG w/ a bout a 50/50 mix of highway/city. Thats w/ 700 miles on the odometer. Its getting better as the break-in period wears on. Like others said the seat of your pants feeling is fun, and its hard to keep from drag racin it, im sure if i did a few less of those hard accelerations it would help my mpg. (I got 3.73 rear, check out my specs in my sig)

Just on the highway im averaging 18-20, had a 35 mile trip the other day that was 70% highway, 30% city, and averaged 17.4 mpg. Havnt done any pure hwy trips to see how it is. But like i said it continues to get better.

The AFM is what you make of it. Ive found if you drive 65-70 on hwy it kicks on alot, once you get going above 70 you stay in V8 mode alot more and get bout 16mpg. It pretty much comes on as soon as you let up a little on the throttle. I keep my DIC showing the instant fuel economy and try to maintain V4 mode as much as possible to increas MPG. its about 30 w/ V4 is on. Also, you never feel the V4 kick on, maybe only occasionally, and thats cause you see it come on.

I'll be addin a Air intake, High flow muffler, and PCM tune at some point to get help get that MPG up.

All in all im happy, my 03 5.3 Z71 was averaging 14.5 mpg, so im already doing better and get way way way more power!

PS - I run 89 oct.

FWIW, Dodge has cylinder deactivation on their Hemi's, but I think they are the only ones besides GM.

Anyway, I'm getting 13-15 in city driving and around 18 highway. The DIC average is usually in the low 16s. I've got about 2500 miles now on mine.

What are your thoughts on the 6.0L vs. the 5.3L. Is the extra power/torque worth the mileage hit? I'm waiting to place an order for the 08 model year and when i test drove a Vmax I wasn't that impressed with it compared to my old 5.3HO.

Id go for the 6.0L. Many reasons, just plain driving you wont notice it all that much, other than on a drag racin start, where the 6.0 is great. Also, when your at hwy speed you wont have to downshift to accelerate. I can def. notices the power. I think were you'll feel it the most is when you got a load. my 5.3 felt horrible w/ a slight load, and ran hard in Tow/Haul mode. The 6.0 just has that, "is that all you got" feelin.

Also theres a lot of perks to the 6.0 Package. It basically makes your truck a 1500 HD

1) 4 Wheel Disc Brakes (as opposed to rear drums)

2) Aux Transmission Cooler

3) SuperDuty Trans

4) 9.5" rear Axle

From the mpg numbers people are posting here with the 6.0 Vmax, I don't see any reason to go with the 5.3. I personally think the 6.0 Vmax mpg numbers are really impressive considering the power, and don't see anyboding reporting much better mpg with the 5.3 AFM. The magazine reviews are showing the same indications. Of course, this may all change somewhat once the 6-speed is coupled to both engines.
