New Head Unit (sound System)

Recommended Posts

I have a 2005 Sierra...

Is my stock head unit double-din?

I want to replace it so I can get my iPod and my satellite radio run directly through the sound system.

Any suggestions on head units?

Thanks.

Yes, I believe they are. Go to crutchfield.com and enter your vehicle. You will be amazed with the choices available. When you order from them they include any adaptors, brackets etc. which are needed for the install.

x2 on Crutchfield, I got a new receiver there a few years ago. They were very helpful and had great customer service.

Buy an FM transmitter and use your factory system to tune in to either. Much cheaper and will sound just as good.... IMHO this is what I did.

I agree Crutchfield is a good place for information. Use it as a source to find the headunit you want. Once you decide on which headunit use the other sources to find your best price.

I was able to purchase everything I wanted in my truck off of e-bay new for 1/2 the price at Cructhfield. They are an excellent source of information on equipment. But just like other big box stores they are in need of money to make their bigger profits so the price is higher then someone who is in the small business world.

Have a nice day.

I thought the same thing until I replaced the head unit. No comparison. The stock head unit supresses the bass as you turn up the volume. I tested mine out using the same cd in both the stock head unit and a portable cd player that I ported straight into my amp. Night and day difference.

If your using the factory HU, don't get a FM trans. Get an iPod Adapter... sound 1000 times better! No hiss when the volume is high, no static in town, use the steering wheel controls... much better. Yes it cost a bit more, but to buy adapters, new HU, mounting kit... unless your going all out and adding amps and speakers, stay with the factory!

I got a pioneer deck last year and it has worked well. I agree go with direct conection fm transmitters aren't the best imo. I got xm hooked up directly to my deck and it wasn't too expensive. Cost about 150 canadian for the antenna and adapter. A seperate unit costs anywhere from 80 to 300 bucks depending on the unit but you have to run it with the fm transmitter. And if your going to buy a new deck id recomend new speakers as well and if you can afford it an amp as well. Going to get a lot more out of your deck with aftermarket speakers then the stockers. But as far as decks so many choices really just comes down to personal preference. Alpine, pioneer are a couple good brands but there are others as well good luck....

All i ever had has been alpines. Best head units out there. A little pricy bu they are worth it. I have the IVA-100 dvd flip out screen. You should be able to get the built in screen which is way better.
