Build Date/week - When To Expect?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this board, so I know I'll get a straight answer on this.

It's been 4 weeks since dealer put in the allocation for my 2007 GMC Sierra. I called today, and the salesman said they still don't have any details on when the truck will be built. Of course when I ordered, I got the usual 6-8 weeks time frame. I should note they had to change the allocation about a week after the initial order since they messed up some things.

Question is, should they have a build date/week by now? Does the build date/week just show up one day that it will be built the following week?

This is my first factory order of a vehicle, so I'm not sure what to expect.

Thanks in advance!

why dont you just have the dealer do a LOCATE on what you want. It s probably already siiting on a lot somewhere, just as you want it.The GMC dealer in Fairview, NJ has a bunch sitting there for weeks already. I got my 07 crew cab that way. They went 150 or so miles to get it. Next day, no wait. Good luck/ post photo soon :)

3 months, ouch! I've seen other discussions on orders in this forum where folks in more like the 8 week range. Same here on the order. We searched and searched, and didn't find anything with some of the absolute must-haves including NHT max trailer package and side air-bags (wife's a nurse who sees traumas, so I couldn't argue with her on that one).

Did the dealer give you any indication of the build date or when they would have that information?

My dealer told me the same 6-8 weeks when I ordered mine this past weekend. He also told me that it would be at least 3 weeks before they had a build date. However, I read a post somewhere from a guy who works at the factory that it only takes them 24 hours to build the truck once it's started. I think it's just a long wait for them to start your truck build, but once it is started, the process moves very quick. Let us know when you take delivery!

The build/delivery process is still a mystery to me. I ordered my LTZ with side curtains and stabil track on March 19th. It was built on April 3 and shipped by rail to Minneapolis. It is now off the rail car and waiting for vehicle transport to the dealer. I expect the dealer will have it April 16th or 17th. All in all about one month from order to dealer getting the truck. You bet I am excited!

Thanks for the responses folks. Glad to hear I'm not the only one in the dark about how this process works.

Chuck, did they just call you up one day and say it's built, or did they give you an indication earlier of when it was scheduled?

I'm really anxious since I've already put $$ down on a 27' travel trailer (~7500# loaded) with camping planned for May 18. My current '97 isn't set up to pull a trailer that big. Last thing I want to do is have to borrow my friend's Ford diesel to pull my new trailer...

I'm not sure I am doing this correctly but here goes. I called the dealer to ask about some clarification about my order and he said he was already scheduled for assembly the week of April 2, a Monday. On Wednesday of that week he called and said it had been assembled and was ready for shipment.

Thanks Chuck. Sounds like a similar situation for me. One day I guess it will just show up. I'm really surprised they don't have visibility into lead-time, schedule, etc.

It inly takes 22 hours to build a truck from start to finish, what your waiting on is Gen-Auto shippers for delivery time. They are slow as molasses, but they also ship many many trucks and cars 7 days a week. then the dealer gets it, do their thing then you get it.

Just heard that my truck is at 3000 - Accepted by Production Control as of ~4/9. Does anybody know how long it should be before I get a Target Product Week?

Thanks!

Hey Chuck, I'm a fellow Minnesotan. Woodbury. I ordered my GMC Sierra SLT Crewcab 6.0 from White Bear Lake Superstore on Jan 22nd and it was built on Feb 23rd, It sat for a few days at the distribution warehouse in Cottage Grove due to the stupid snowstorm we had right around the first of March. I ended up taking delivery on March 10th because my dealer needed it for a few days to put on all of my accessories. Where did you buy from?
