Financing / Rebates / Incentives

Anyone here yet if Chevrolet will have better incentives or rebates for the month of May. Just saw that Toyota overtook them for the 1st quarter. Wondering if they will step up the current incentives to try to take the lead back or possibly do what Ford just did by offering 0% financing for 60months?

Pisses me off that they got beat even for a quarter.

Get used to it - it's only going to get worse. 60% + of GM's sales are now overseas (China and Europe especially). You can thank management decisions and miscalculations (can you say cost cutting measures gone terrible wrong?) in the 80's and early 90's for this. I guess they perceive that it is easier and less expensive to get new customers across the ocean than it is to try to win back those that have abandoned ship for Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc. Hell, if the NBS trucks weren't so nice, I'd be driving a Tundra right now after the experience I had with GM in the late 80's.

Could not agree with you more. I also believe they recently hurt themselves by getting so many people in the last couple of years with massive rebates and low interest financing that it has made people wait for the next great deals....

TOTAL car sales...not truck sales. It appears there are people that are really buying into the whole "hybrid" nonsense...who wants to save money on gas??? Not me, I'll stick with my gas-guzzler. Its more fun!

For the first time ever, Toyota sold more vehicles globally in a quarter than General Motors, preliminary January-March figures show, the clearest sign yet that the Japanese company is on track to overtake its U.S. rival as the world's top automaker.

Toyota Motor Corp.'s success is fueled by robust demand for its reliable, fuel-efficient models, including the Camry, Corolla, Yaris and gas-electric hybrid Prius. It also comes at a time when General Motors Corp., which lost $2 billion last year, has been forced to scale back production and cut costs in a bid to revive its sliding fortunes, even as it leads in China's booming market.

Final bragging rights as the world's top automaker - a title GM has held for 76 years - won't be decided until global vehicle production numbers get tallied for the full year.

But Tuesday's data show that Toyota is getting closer. The Japanese company sold 2.35 million vehicles worldwide in the first quarter, Toyota said, surpassing the 2.26 million vehicles GM said it sold in the period, according to preliminary figures.

I think why GM is losing customers is because the way they treat them. I have a 07 NBS silverado LTZ every time I take it in because something is wrong (and theres a hell of alot wrong with it) they dont fix a dame thing they say thats the way its designed. The thing runs like crap , brakes sqeak, both front post have air leaks, defroster vent does not close all the way, onstar does not work (there recalling it for that), muffler creaks and clanks while running and after engine is turned off, paint on the front end is popping off in over 100 spots with only 3500 miles ,hood is not alined properly I have been to 3 different dealers trying to get this crap fixed and have just about had it with GM like I told them on the phone just if I wanted an 80 MPH truck I would have bought a 4 cylinder and just because GM has a poor design it does not mean the customers sould have to drive a piece of crap it embrassing to be wide open in a v8 truck and be passed by a ford escort Gm needs to get its head out of the sand. I am 48 years old and have never bought anything but GM anything but GM but its looks like this one will be my last

This is why I couldnt be a car sales rep.

Every truck i've ever rode in or driven in has had a muffler that pops when you cut it off , that is normal. The paint well you most likely got alpine white by the way it sounds , its gonna do that because of the cheap white paint they use. Other than that, I cant really comment on anything there.... when the escort is passing you on the interstate put your foot in it so 8 cylinders kick on? This kinda mentality has to stop america is dying because people want to cry about small details with there truck. I was driving to work yesterday and was surrounded by rice burners its upsetting , then when I get to work I hear this toyota crap. We have lost our steel and the muscle car ; our weight system is next then what ....the english language itself?

I think the toyota spokesman said it all when he said they did not aim to be the biggest seller, they aim to build in the best quality, the sales will follow. Simple logic. Gm needs to build something besides trucks and suv's. The gas prices are not gonna come down so you will see a lot of people who dont HAVE to own a truck go for the fuel efficient vehicles.

One of the fundamental problems is the absolutely retarded argument that somehow diesel engines are worse for the environment than 6 and 8 cylinder gas engines that achieve MPG number less than half what you'd see in a diesel. GM, Chrysler, Ford, etc all sell quality small diesel engines overseas. The 1% of nut-jobs out there who are a part of CARB block efforts of car makers to produce a small, efficient diesel in a 1/2 ton truck by limiting specific emissions. The fact is, a nice 5 cylinder turbodiesel would put out torque numbers comparable to a 5.3 gasser and regularly return 25-28 MPG - nearly 2x the mileage you'd see in a gasser. This technology has been around since... hummm.... the early 1980's. The first company to wake up and smell that coffee and start building a 1/2 ton with a small turbodiesel engine is going to hit it big in my opinion.

As for GM building different vehicles - GM is stuck on selling Americans big SUVs and trucks because the profit margins are so high. IMHO... if gas hits $4 a gallon this summer as some are predicting.... GM, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, etc won't be able to give these trucks away. Look at the product line GM sells overseas... much more in line with the future of cars here as gas prices continue the inevitable march upward.

I agree. Turbo diesels should be the engine of choice. It may be the consumer is not comfortable with making the switch. The big 3 must do consumer surveys before they introduce a culture change like this. They can offer all the rebates and 0% financing, the trucks wont move with gas at $4 or more.

first off I just a recall letter today for the muffler so its not normal for a truck and it doesnt just pop when you turn it off it pops and creaks the whole time its running and for about 10 mins after its turned off and my 2002 silverado didnt do it so. My truck is victory Red not alpine white and its not because of cheap paint its because of poor design Gm made the piece between the grill and bumper out of metal and painted it red it sould have been chromed or made from plastic its to close to the road and catches to much grit from the highway for it to be made of painted metal. As far as being passed by an escort The NBS 07 silverados are governed so they only do between 80 to 88 miles per hour.as far as crying about problems and you not being a sales rep I paid over 34000.00 whitch is top dollar for a this truck and it should be everthing they advertise it as and if something is wrong with it it has a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty it should be repaired
