Trans Temp Gauge

I'm thinking of adding one, but the clusters that have them cost too much. Anyone mount and aftermarket trans temp gauge in a pod? Do I need a sending unit or is there one that will integrate with the stock electronics? Mechanical or electric?

I installed only a gauge into my '03 -- the sender is already routed to the factory cluster. You just need the gauge. Mine came from www.stylinconcepts.com for ~$130. Haven't heard anybody mention this for a while, so not sure if they still sell the gauge. You can view this link for an old discussion on the topic:

Send me a PM if you have questions.

Good luck!

Ray, I researched this a great deal before I finally decided on the Interceptor from Aeroforce as Chris has mentioned. If you do install an aftermarket gauge you have to drill a hole in your pan for the sensor or add a "Tee" to a line somewhere for the sensor and the Tee will need to be grounded to make the sensor read. There is a threaded hole in the driver's side of the trans that some have used. This port is called a dead port and is used for testing. It will not provide an accurate reading because the fluid is not moving at this port.

The Interceptor simply plugs into your OBD II port and a 12v power supply which you can piggyback off your fuse box. It will read trans temp right from the internal sensor that is already in place in your trans. The Interceptor will read about 18 funtions and will do so 2 at a time on a split screen. It is not as sophisticated as some of the newer scan gauges but it is round and IMO looks much nicer when mounted. I mounted mine in a single pod on my "A" pillar. I really like the unit and keep it set on trans temp and MPG. It will also read 0 to 60 times, 1/8 and 1/4 mile times and speeds.

There are some pictures of mine on this forum if you do a search.

Hey I love the Interceptor a lot! Tons more information that just tranny temperature and mounting it in a pod puts all that information within reach and easy to read. I think I'll go that route. Thanks!

I replied to another thread to this question.

Apparently, a cluster from a 2500 will plug-and-play in the 1500.

However, would be much cheaper to go with an aftermarket gauge, such as an Interceptor, to give your tranny temp. The interceptor gauge will also give you a lot more info.

I tool a look at the Interceptor today and I like what I see. It looks like it plugs right into your OBDII and you're all set.

Can you get these in canada without having to pay through the nose? I emailed the company today but got no reply.

Where can I get a pod to match the interior colour of my truck?

P Wall can tell you about ordering one in Canada. He has one.

As far at the POD, mine is an Autometer brand, part # ATM 15105. They come in black and you will need to paint it. I used SEM brand paint and any good automotive paint store can fix you up. They had my factory color in a spray can but they can mix if for you and put it in a spayer for you. I bought an "A" Pillar cover from a junk yard for 10 bucks and painted it along with the pod. I kept my original one just in case I ever wanted to take the gauge out.

I bought my Interceptor and POD from Race Car Supply in Lexington, KY. Tel # 859 252 2496. Nice guy who took care of me. You can see some pictures of mine if you search this topic on the forum.

My speedometer went haywire and when I had the cluster rebuilt, I had the factory tans temp added. It was $250 total. It took one week and I am very pleased. The 2003-2006 Silverados have the trans temp installed in the wiring and transmission. I did not realize how many bulbs were burned out in my dash until I had it rebuilt. This is the URL

I hope the url works. I had the stock look retained and then added the temp gauge.
