hey guys i looked up info on my truck and it said towing capacity is 7,800 pounds is the z-71 package only for payload capacities or does it come into towing aswell i was wondering how much it helps i know it looks more like a truck with this package but i was wondering what normal 4x4 ext cab short bed trucks have ratings for w/o the actual z-71. will the z-71 package actually help or did i just get nice little stickers on my truck by getting this package. my truck is a 2004 silverado 1500 ext cab 4x4 z-71 standard bed

I believe the Z71 package includes heavier duty shocks, skid plates, Heavier stabilizer bar, jounce bumpers (frame bumpers), High Cap air cleaner and neat little stickers. I do not believe it affects towing capacities, but I am not positive about this.

you get 44mm shocks vs. 36mm shocks

off road jouncers

skidplates

wheel flares (available on other models, but standard on Z-71)

Oh....and cool stickers

Z71 does not increase tow rating or load capacity!

Just better shocks and a really nice sticker for the side.

It does have skid plates which are nice too! but what I

like about the Z71 is the resale-Park a Z71 next to one that is not

and its a done deal-everyone wants the z71!!!!

Z71 is mainly a marketing thing!!!!

Wheel flares are not standard. My 2005 Silverado Z71 had no wheel flares, I had to take it back to the dealership to have them put on as a dealer accessory.

Aren't you guys forgetting the G80 locking rear differential? That's standard on the Z71 package.

My 2006 Z71 does not have wheel flares either.

I also really don't understand the "high capacity air cleaner" option as the air filter size is the same with and without it. It does come with the Z71 package and apparently I have it, but what does it give you?

I personally would have gone for either a regaular 4x4 or a Z71 4x4 as long as the regular 4x4 had the G80 locker option. The Z71 on the lot just happened to have all the rest of the options I wanted and in an acceptable color.

BTW this was for a 2006. I'm not sure if the packages have changed for the '07 classic. I do know you can get the NBS Z71 in 2WD (IMO that's just silly).

Did they change anything for 2007 with what is included with the Z-71 package?

I beleive you can get a Z71 package for 2WD trucks.

Why, I dont know..

Nothing is changed for '07 except that the all important cool sticker is different for 2wd and 4wd trucks. My '07 NBS has "4x4" below Z71.

On the '07 NBS, the "base" Z-71 package gives you 1.81" shocks, off-road jounce bumpers, stabilizer bars, high capacity air cleaner, heavy duty automatic locking rear differential, skid plates, and Z71 decals.

On the regular cab models, the only way to get OEM 18" wheels is to have it be a Z-71. The 18" wheels combined with the locking differential made it an easy option to select when I ordered mine.

Wow. I have never seen a Z-71 w/o wheel flares on a dealer lot. I have been looking at trucks for years, until I finally pulled the trigger last year. I have also never seen one w/o flares on the road.

The HD towing and z71 have the same springs and shock package and the HD air cleaner. The z71 adds the locking diff and skid plates and the decal. In my 2500HD the spring and shock package was the same - I added the locker and skid plates and skipped the decal.

Now you can get the Z71 package on both the 2WD and the 4WD trucks. Mine is the 2WD Z71 and I think it came with skid plates, larger shocks, and all of the other stuff you guys have said.

My 04 GMC Z-71 did not come with fender flares. They must come standard on the Chevy.
