I am curious as to the details on how AFM works. Can V4 mode be forced? Why does it go into V8 when idling? In my mind it is the most interesting new thing on the vehicle.

The way it was explained to me is that it would idle very rough in V4 mode, giving the driver the impression something is wrong with the vehicle. This system works by disabling the pushrods, shutting off the valve action in the closed position. You essentially get a compression stroke with no fuel or spark. It stays in balance by the compression spring-action on the down stroke. You need some RPM's to keep this running smooth. Was also told it won't stay in V4 mode more than @ 8 minutes as it needs to fire all 8 cylinders for a brief period of time then go back into V4 mode to prevent oil loading.

Personally think it works well on my truck and delivering decent mileage for what this vehicle is (big & heavy & 4X4). Getting roughly the same mileage as the 2wd V6 powered C1500 W/T it replaced along with more than enough motor for my needs.
