Do I Have Xm ? Xm Ready ?

I just got an 07 Silverado NBS, the radio has the option for CAT, which is category for XM. I have my xm roady in there, but would like to use the stock radio. Is the unit in there to receive the signal, or do i have to purchase the extra adapter. I have that antenna on my roof, but i believe thats for the OnStar. Can anyone give me some insight on this ????

GM has an XM kit, that has a replacement dual-purpsoe antenna (Onstar and XM) along with the XM receiver and harness. The kit is around $225 from the dealer. I installed one on my '07 NBS GMC Sierra. Pretty simple. Kit comes with instructions, free activation, and 90 days free XM. If you go to GMPartsDirect.com, you should be able to drill down through Accessories and locate the part number for the kit.

No there is not. The internal stuff inside is different. You have to use the antenna from the kit, which replaces the existing antenna. Previous years required a different antenna for both Onstar and XM. With the NBS GMs for '07, it's a much cleaner install, but you have to replace the Onstar antenna, with the dual-purpose antenna.

I know you're disappointed and they should have explained everything to you at the dealership but it's not really that much of a surprise (or a crock). Your truck is rated to tow over 10K pounds but doens't come with a hitch........ Options, Options, Options

I haven't done any stereo work on a newer car before (and by newer I'm talking anything newer than probably the early 90s) so I just wanted to know what I was getting myself into if I decided to install the XM kit myself.

The instructions assume you have a basic understanding of how to remove the radio bezel, the sun visors, the overhead console, and the A-pillars. However, if you study these items a bit, and take a cautious approach, it's not that difficult.

I have a 2005 Silverado with the onstar and the XM antenna both on the top of my truck. When I hit "band" on the radio it never brings up XM. I don't have an XM or SAT button either, I've looked all over. In my buddys truck, you just hit band and it goes to XM. Is something wrong with my radio?

Look behind the glove box door, the XM reciever should be there. Just because it has an antenna, doesn't mean it's in there. My truck is XM ready as well... but no antenna or reciever... XM ready, not so much!

BUT!!! With my iPod plugged into the XM wiring side of the radio, I hit band and the iPod starts up... Radio says XM1!
