03 Silverado Cluster/odometer Problem

Our work truck is an 03 chevy silverado single cab long bed truck. It only has about 16000 miles on it but being 4 years old, its not under warranty anymore. The truck is owned by the store that I work for and is strictly used by the maintenance dept. (where I work) to go get supplies and parts and stuff that we need to maintain or repair stuff in the store. It only gets driven once or twice a week at most and usually no more than 5 or 6 miles. I guess thats why the mileage is so low. And since I work in maintenance, guess whose job it is to get the truck fixed? anyways, onto the problem....I noticed that sometimes the display on the cluster which reads out the mileage and the trans gear (PRND123) it will completely shut off. But the rest of the cluster (guages) work fine. Then the next day the display on the cluster will work again, and so on.... Any idea what would cause an intermittent problem like this? Any clue of where I should start looking?

It most likely is and internal problem inside the cluster. The only way to fix it os to replace the cluster.
