Well here I am in search of a real horn....I get embarassed when I have to blow my stock horn, sounds like a Toyota Prius trying to get a SUV out of the way...but Id like something that I can just wire into whats there...rather not run new wiring rather use whats there for the stock horn and would possibly like to go to a locomotive horn or something just pretty loud that will get some attention...any suggestions?

Do you only have one of two horns working?

Usually the right side (passenger) is out due to water damage.

You can get Cadillac DeVille replacements that are basically plug-n-toot.

There are extreme kits, like those by Hornblasters.com

i always thought GM horns were really loud. the one on my truck is loud as hell. you can also try pep boys or something. they have horns that you can just replace from the stockers and use the same bolts.

i don't know i think my 04's got a pretty manly horn... theres nothing like seeing the look on somebody's face after they cut you off and you give em a little run for their money :banghead: I LOVE IT :banghead: i'd go with the deville horn... those things sound like fog horns...

What about air horns? I've thought about putting air horns on my truck as well. They even make them so that they play a specific tune. Like "tequila" or "dixie" or the "godfather theme". I've even seen some air horn which supposedly duplicate the sound of a locomotive or a big rig truck. Go look at JCWhitney.com

If you don't want to bother with installing an air horn, head out to a local auto recycler/junkyard and get a pair of horns from a GM car like an early 70's Cadillac, Buick Park Avenue, or Olds 98. Late 60's fullsize cars work too.

These horns are the same style and use a single bolt mounting bracket. You may have to swap out the connector as the early horns used a simple spade lug design. Not only is the dB output of the older horns higher, the tone of the horns are lower. Make sure you get a matched pair from the old car as each horn has a different note.

Get an older horn from junkyard. Early 70's model ones were very loud.

I was looking on ebay for a pair, but I wasnt exactly sure what to get. Id really like a set of like locomotive style or tractor trailer style air horns. I dont care what the horn looks like I want the sound. Also Im looking for someting not too expensive. I saw some horns are 300+ and im not payin that for a horn. Ill let em hit me and they can buy me a new truck before I pay the 300 for a horn.

Train horns are awesome but, you have to find a place to put them and run air lines etc etc etc. I have 3 horns the one stock one and 2 horns out of a 1978 Buick Park Avenue as stated above.

When I lay on the horn people move out of the way. I love tooting my own horn as it were it's pretty loud. If i get sometime i'll try and record it sometime...

So it's a direct fit replacement for the truck?
