Does Bcm Store Mileage?

I bought a 03 Z71 a couple of months ago and it has the white SS gauges in it. The previous owner told me he had them put in after his speedo gave out.

My question is, does the body or PCM computer store the trucks mileage independantly from the speedo? I am just curious to see if the mileage is correct..... and if there is a way to check it somehow...

I would assume that it has it stored in several places, and if the numbers don't match up it sets off some kind of signal. But the speedo changes shown from your sig pic leads me to believe the LCD screen thinamabob that displays mileage wasn't changed just the needles and backdrop.

NOPE!!! the cluster is the only place that the milage is stored, but if the speedo just gave out, it would still record mileage, but if you unplugged that cluster and drove the truck 100000 miles and then put it back in, it would still have the same milage as it did before you unplugged it

In the cluster.

Is there a mileage sticker on the driver's door?

If the cluster wasn't programmed with the "current" mileage and hours at the time of swap, there should have been a sticker placed on the driver's door indicating the known mileage at the time of the cluster change. Then with the sticker and the cluster mileage, the true mileage could be calculated and reported as true.

If the sticker isn't there, the previous owner was 1. lazy and cheap to get it programmed and forgot the sticker or 2. is deceptive of the true mileage that vehicle had at the time of sale.

I was only charged $20 to transfer the mileage from my basic 1500 Silverado cluster to a Denali cluster. It was all done in the Speedo shop's parking lot, pulled the old one out, handed it to them (as I purchased the Denali cluster from them). 5 minutes later they handed back both clusters with the mileage and hours transfered. They even set my trip odometer on Denali cluster to the same that was on the Silverado one.

I'm not concerned that the truck has more miles then indicated. If anything, I believe that due to the nature of the previous owner and the condition of the vehicle that the vehicle has less miles then indicated. I believe that they put the cluster in without reprogramming it and the cluster has more miles then the truck actually has.

But, if it does help, the hour meter seems to have been reset. And, I've been told that if the hour meter was reset it means the mileage was reprogrammed. It only has about 150 hours on it and yet it's got 91,000 miles. If 91,000 miles is the true mileage for the truck then it must have been well taken care of. The truck looks to be in better condition then most I"ve seen of newer years.

well yah, when the speedo went out, they replaced the cluster, and untill just recently actually, the company that rebuilds the clusters would set the milage to what the truck previously had, and since the hourmeter isnt very important they dont bother setting it to the correct hours... as far as the truck acually having less miles than it says it has, that would be a stupid thing to do  and theres almost no chance that that happend

Nah man...You got a ROCKET TRUCK!

That sucker is averaging well over 600 miles per hour!

if you are unsure of the milage you can go to any gm dealer and have the do a vis check and look at the service history.

That will only give the milage at the last service at a dealer.
