Timing Chain Replacement?

Hi, I have a 98 vortec 5.7 truck engine and was wondering at what mileage should the timing chain and gears be replaced? I bought this truck with a bad engine and am installing a used engine that has 80,000 miles on it.The owner said this engine ran perfect till he wrecked the truck. I am putting a new gasket set on it while it is out including the famous intake gaskets for this year. Should I go a head and put a timing set in it? any thought would be appreciated.

It wouldn't hurt since you have the motor out and are doing all the other stuff, but that being said the chain and gear that's in there (as long as they are in good shape) should last a long, long, long time. I'd say it's just a matter of whether you feel like messing with it or not.
