well my transmission has been acting up in my 04 silverado so i just uninstalled my bully dog hand held tuner and it got worse now its 1-2 up shift will slip and then grab making an ubrupt clunk into gear (not a noise just a feeling) i wwas wondering what i should do it only does this when the truck gets warmed up the service tech was saying for 50 bucks i can get a crank relearn done but hes not certain it will fix the problem my other option is that my dad might be swapping vehicles with his co worker the co workers 05 maxima for my dads gf aviator and then i would trade my truck in on a vw jetta for his gf and i would take the maxima. let me know what you think i should do

I'm having the same problem. I have an '03 Silverado Quadrasteer w/ the 5.3L and 4L60E tranny. Tranny seems to slip between 1st and 2nd..then grab. I noticed it when I bought it, and found a service bulletin about those conditions being caused by electrical interference from the alternator causing the transmission pressure control solenoid to act up. The fix was basically adding another wire to the alternator connector. More info here: http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread...5015#post765015 and here: http://www.mightyautoparts.com/pdf/articles/tts0204.pdf

I did that fix...didn't really seem to do much. So I ordered a custom Wester's tuned pcm to help performance and to firm up the shifts. I actually had them do it twice, because I wanted the shifts firmer yet. I was hoping making the shifts firmer and upping the line pressure in the tranny would help the slip between 1 and 2....plus I hate it that GM is trying to make pickups shift like cars...it's a truck, who cares if the shift is a little firm...I don't like slippin' it between gears. Wester's seemed to help some..but the slippage definitely still there. If anybody else has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate the help too.

Have also dropped the tranny pan, changed filter, inspected stuff...seemed alright. Next step is a bottle of Lucas to the trans fluid I guess...

i have to say maximas are sweet cars with great quality overall though plus it would be worth more but yea i had a flash done last week and then all seemed to be going good until today! now it does this everyonce in a while at random! this is pissing me off now

Well I'm assuming since you've talked to a tech that you've also checked your tranny fluid. Even if it still looks fine, if its the original fluid, I'd change it. Thats about the only thing you should do yourself.

If after changing the fluid the condition is the same, I would personally call as many dealer service departments that you can and talk to them about the problem and try to get a suggestion as to the problem. If I may, I would suggest calling SMALLER dealers as they often are in more need of work.

If you can narrow the problems down to a few suggestions then do some research on them and see if you can't define the problem. After that stroll (or clunk) into a smaller garage and chat with the staff about what you think the problem is.

Never let someone into your tranny without knowing EXACTLY what you and they think the problem may be. Identify it and make sure they call you if they think it's otherwise. Once your tranny is dropped you're screwed.

You could have a bad seal, solenoid, faulty sensors, any number of things. You could also have bad transmission fluid or a slow undetected leak. If you have never had tranny fluid chaged that would be the FIRST thing you should do. You need to check it properly and on a level surface.

I wouldn't say quality and Nissan anything belong in the same sentence. And hell don't even get me started on VW :)

that would be why my uncles friends maxima went 600k miles on two transmissions before he traded it that being the only major issue the entire time he had it besides regular maint. you cant say nissan doesnt have a little quality if this happened and vw's are built like tanks i would prefer to be in that toureg or jetta over an impala in an accident not saying there the best cars made and not that i am a chevy hater (i love chevy) but there are other things in the world that sometimes i have to admit to having just as good or better quality in my personal experiences and yes the maxima did have 600 and some miles on it not joking

...Just going to add a little that no-one talked about yet. Do any of you with the 1-2 "slip" have the Torque Management completely removed? If you still have the same levels of TM from factory, it can feel like a slip at times when the PCM pulls the ungodly amount of spark advance at the shift and then returns it one second later. In a heavily modified truck, it will feel absolutely horrible. For example, if I do a WOT blast with factory levels of torque management, the front of the truck will actually dive down and then rear back once the spark advance is back. This will be less pronounce obviously with a stock or lightly modded truck.

You know, I have this same feeling and the dealer said it was fine, no problems. It is definitely a weird feeling as it feels like a pause and catch between first and second upshifting.

i'll bet the tranny is ok on the maxima and the VW. go with it. my 2001 sle slips every now and then. i did a write up already and the only ideas were already tried. it slips every once in awhile. once or twice a year i'll get to a stop light and press the gas to go and it will just sit there for a second or two.it happens right at 1st and 2nd. no fix in sight, had it in twice. tranny is a complicated thing, any issues, just rip it out, theres no easy fix.

    • WTI futures / speculation is just that. WTI futures <> current 4-7% inflation and national average gas price over $4.00/gallon.   The spot price, at delivery, is currently $87-$95/barrel which is why gas prices remain high.   Edit: oH mY gOd mEnTaL BrEaKdoWn In tHE pOsT aBOve mInE. • He does, actually. In another unrelated video he mentions the president called him in the middle of the night to relay some information on a cause (religious based) that he's invested in. Glenn expressed concern that another leftist administration could wield too much power with some procedure the Pentagon was using, classifying certain religions a certain way. Being that he is LDS (Latter Day Saints), he gets hate all the time from ALL over the political spectrum, so he's invested in this. Trump called him back at 5AM to tell him he had made some changes to that classification.   So, yes, they are and have been in contact regularly since the start of the administration. Glenn, of course, always asks his permission before discussing anything on the air.   I already spent an hour or more just searching for these videos. I may have my numbers wrong - I'm not a numbers guy. It may have been a MILLION barrels, not 1.5. The point is, our President, by his actions, gives a crap about America, and US - this is completely OPPOSITE the actions of the prior administration who projected hatred for anyone who wasn't following the left's edicts in lock-step.   Remember, they called January 6th an "Insurrection", when there were ZERO weapons among the crowd, undercover FBI agents agitating the crowd, along with paid leftists acting as aggressors, egging the crowd on in an attempt to whip everyone into a frenzy. It's all been proven.  Pelosi refused Trumps request for more National Guard troops. This smells 100% like an inside job for those with critical thinking skills. Only a handful of guys in the crowd got wrapped up in that, thankfully, but EVERYONE was searched out based on cell phone data, and charges were brought against many. And 6 or so people were locked up and left in solitary confinement for YEARS with ZERO due process!! If you give the slightest crap about our Nation, REGARDLESS of your political leanings, this should frighten you to your core. This is what men suffered, bled, fought, and died against 250 years ago!   This has gone FAR BEYOND left vs. right. This is a  threat to America, and our way of life. This is PRECISELY why Trump, a BILLIONAIRE who could have chosen to take Melania and sit on some tropical island that he could afford to buy himself and RELAX, instead chose to run for office, get hate from literally every corner of the media, get ATTEMPTS on his LIFE constantly, and begin to repair some of the severe damage that's been done to this Great Nation.   I don't know why I bother wasting my precious time here. Everyone has their minds made up. They won't realize we all were correct until it's too late ... after they elect another tyrant that hates America to office (Obama), or another puppet whose administration is secretly running the show behind the scenes (Biden).
    • Hello, Im in a bit of a bind maybe someone could help me out.  We towed our trailer, up a pretty steep incline (395 north of Bishop) done it before no issues. I got to our campground turn truck off, i restarted the truck about an hour later  and check engine light turns on. Found DTC P2C48,  unable to reset.  This morning i removed the plug, there's 12.12v at the plug. Reservoir near firewall is full of coolant, checked for leaks nothing. I dont hear or feel the pump turning on. My dilemma, is nearest dealer  is 4hrs away that has the pump instock. Is it safe to drive? By me checking the available voltage at the connector and not hearing/feeling pump turn on, is it a bad pump? Please help...
    • The figure bandied about is "100 million barrels" so I think a decimal is off somewhere. But that doesn't change the outcome much when the expected flow through the Strait through over the same time should have been more than 2,000,000,000.   So 5%, if that number is even true, and there's sufficient data to believe it's not. Give that man another Fifa peace prize! 5% is less than the flow of a grapefruit-sized prostate blocking the release of cheap lager after a night of bingo.
