Synthetic Oil Usage

Recommended Posts

I notice that several members are using Mobil 1 as their choice of synthetic oil. Is anyone using Pennzoil Platinum? I am thinking about using the Pennzoil Platinum in my Silverado and was wondering what others thought of it???

Thanks!

I am not positive, but I dont think Pennzoil Plat is 100% synthetic...

Some of the other guys on this board can answer this for sure. I personally only use Mobil 1 5w30 oil and M1 filters in the wifes car and my truck and have been for the last 4 years.

But before I switched to full Synthetic, I was a hardcore pennzoil dino advocate for years.

Just my 2 cents.

There are some pretty strong rumors that Mobil 1 has also gone to group 111 in the last year. Pennzoil Platnum is probably just as good and usually cheaper.

I use a real synthetic , all pao German Castrol 0W30. Its the only true synthetic in Castrols line. The only problem it is only found at AutoZone. It has european formula on the bottle.

I use Pennzoil Platinum in my '05 Silverado and I haven't had any problems at all. I was using Mobil 1 but I switched to Platinum a little over a year ago. I think that it's just as good, or better, than Mobil 1. JMO.

I just switched to it at 1500 miles on my 5.3L. I've also read very good things about it. Given the lower cost compared to M1 I'll use it for a long time.

If you go to bobistheoilguy.com you'll get more info on this subject than you ever imagined existed. I use PP because of the great price when it goes on sale but on that site they reccomended Amsoil ACD 10W-30.

When did this change?

I use the German Castrol in my 6.0 nbs and in my daughters Ion with the Ecotec 2.2. UOA shows great numbers for the Ecotec. The Silverado purrs with the GC.

Thats Mobil 1 marketing. They have been ask many times point blank and side step the issue. They do have some pao but mostly group 111. If you read the web site you can see the wording is some what misleading.

You believe what you want and I will believe what all the evidence points to. I used to use Mobil 1 and may even use it again. Its not bad oil. Its just way over priced for mostly group 111 in my opinion.

Have a good one,

Don
