84 Winnebago P30 Sputters And Brakes Lockup

I have a 1984 Winnebabgo Itasca P30 with 454 carburated. Lately I have a problem with running it. It has 21,000 miles (yes 21,000miles) I can start it take off but after a couple of miles engine starts stumbling, I hear a lot of popping noises and if I step on it it will miss a lot, sometimes die, then come back, and so on. Best part the brakes start locking up, the more I step on it the more it sputters and the brakes get tighter. If I let it sit for an hour or so, I have no problem until another 2 miles, than back from the begin.

It has been serviced and tuned up recently including air/oil/fuel filters (inline carb filter).

Anybody has an idea what this could be ? I cannot even take it to a shop, it won't make it.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. It may only have 21K on it, but the old rubber hoses have years of dry rot. Start there. Another problem could be the seals inside the carb, a rebuild kit wouldn't hurt it, even if it isn't your problem.

Oh, and check to make sure your plug wires are all on the right plugs, firing order problems will cause similar effects as this as well.
