Daubs Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 The Big Block needs new rubber. Already have 285 REVO's and they are well past done @ ~50k miles. Service guy is talking me into BFG AT's and I'm wondering if I should go with D range or E range tires. The REVO's on the stock rims were D range and caused no problems for me. Don't tow or do any mega-heavy hauling. Have the t-bars cranked already. No problems with rubbing. Anyone step up to the 295's? on the stock alum rims? Here are stats... LT285/75R16/E, 33" payload=3750@80 LT285/75R16/D, 32.8" payload=3305@65 LT295/75R16/D, 33.2" payload=3415@65 Tell me what you think...Thanks, D.

BTW, I have 315 bfg's. Like ballons when empty.
demented Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Load range D @ 3304 lbs. capacity is more than the tires that came stock on that truck. And they will ride better. 285/75/16 onmy truck. Love 'em.
gmc_todd Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I am seriously considering this option also. Is there any effect on towing with the 285's. Do any of you tow?
Zembonez Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 E rated tires are sure rough riding but they are equally tough by design. For mostly street driving unloaded I highly recommend going with the D rated tire.
demented Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I posted on another thread about towing. I tow a 10000 lbs race trailer with 285's. I do have a superchip flashpaq that adjusts the computer for the larger tires. I have the 6.0 liter. It tows great with the larger tires. I can't tell any difference between the stock tires and the larger tires. I have the load range D tires as well . They ride smoother in my opinion. My tires are on 16 x8 rims which I think makes a huge difference in the way it tows. Much more stable.

Daubs Posted October 25, 2007 Author Posted October 25, 2007 Another question...am I going to see any more miles from BFG's than from my REVO's? Will E's out last D's?
Roofer Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Going with 285's and not towing much, the D rated will be plenty. My Revo's didn't last at all and after trying a few different tires now, I am going back to BFG's in the 265 load E. They have to last longer than these revos.
superbee Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Tread depth on the E is 15/32 and D is 17/32, also, the D is rated for severe snow and ice (the little snowflake/mountain picture) while the E range is not. All for the 285/75-16 size only, of course. All listed here: http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs/all-t...-t-a-ko/44.html
wellinghurst Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 All you need is the "d" range tires in a 285. I have been through 2 sets of BFG's on 2 other trucks and got 90k on one set and 80k on the other-they both still had tread, but the inner belts were wearing out. I have put 10k on my truck now so far with the tires you are talking about in an 8 ply and they still look new. (The little rubber bits they have near the surface that don't go all they way down-you'll know what I am talking about if you've seen them-still look like they are brand new.) I run 45psi front and 50psi rear. I'll never buy another truck tire.
Bruce03Silverado Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 285 Load range D on my stock rims with no issues - no cranking, no trimming and no rubbing. Whne I am ready fro my next set of tires I will get a set of new rims and add the cognito leveling kit.
