My 07 Dmax......help With Weights

Chevy's site says a max 'trailering weight' of 16,500lbs. Is that at the rear or a 5th wheel?

 

Also says a combined gross weight of 23,500lbs......again, 5th wheel?

 

Another thing, anybody know what the rating of the receiver is? Is it 10,000lbs? More? I would hope they at least match it up with the trucks capability. I've got a 12,000lb trailer.

 

This is my personal vehicle but may from time to time be used in the business moving my Bobcat around. I just need to fully understand its ratings and get the truck properly tagged. The stupid dealer couldn't even tell me when I bought it.

The 16,500 weight is 5th wheel, I believe if you have the NBS with the 2.5" receiver tube that can tow about 12,000 lbs with the appropriate ball (2 5/16 I believe, haven't had to use that one yet though haha). But don't worry, that truck can pull anything that you hitch up to it. My 6.0L could pull a house, and your D-max could pull the whole town hahaha.

I agree with the 6.0L. One of my work trucks is an '02 with 4.10.......hell of a truck. I spoiled myself with the DMAX and years down the road it may become another work vehicle.

 

Where can I get a 12k rated hitch? I've been to Tractor Supply and a few other places but they all max out at 10k.......even 10k was few and far between. Call up a local truck shop this week see what they can do for me.

Well, I think your truck should already have it...Just about every HD I've seen had the trailering package.

 

I had an '06 2500HD with the 6.0L, pulled like a champ but got lousy gas mileage even unloaded, so I had to trade it in for a 1/2 ton 1500 with the 5.3L.

My '07 came with a receiver, no hitch.

If you mean the drawbar type that goes into the receiver, then my personal preference would be a pintle hitch setup, which is pretty handy cause you can unbolt part of it and move it up or down, and also change the ball sizes easily as long as you have some 3/4" wrenches handy. The 2" on mine is rated at 6 tons (12,000 lbs).

Scroll down a bit and you'll see the two components- the ball assembly which also has an "arm" that clamps on top of it for those ring-type couplers and there are a few options for the plate that goes into the receiver and on which the ball assembly mounts.

Thanks for the link. I use both 2 5/16" ball and pintle hook for my trailers. Adjustable height is desired but I have seen one before that did not require unbolting......on a truck, not in a store. May have even been aluminum but that doesn't matter. I think it was some sort of pin system vs bolts. I've got a hitch that uses 4 bolts to raise and lower but that gets old real quick.

I've seen one like that as well, mostly on lifted vehicles. Looked to be some kind of ratcheting system...I'd take bolts over ratchets any day, as over time the teeth can wear down and I'd hate to be around when the whole ball goes crashing to the ground.

If you look at the trailering specs page on the web site, you will see that 13,000lbs is the max for a non fifth wheel trailer and 22000lbs is the GCWR. The hitch is a class V which is 2.5" square (as opposed to the normal 2" square).

 

Not sure about where to go to get pintle hitches - Coastal, or some other farm supply or implement dealer?
