Westin Nerf Bars Popping Noise

Recommended Posts

i am having some problems with a set of Westin platinum nerf bars. I installed them according to the instructions. My left one is perfect no noise, the right one has been making some very loud noises popping and grinding everytime I turn the truck either direction. I took the truck to the dealership and they reinstalled the right side and put in some dampeners that are standar don GM versions and the noises are still there. It sounds like the truck is going to fall apart. It is on a 07 NNBs crew cab. I got the westin platinum series. Any ideas to fix this??

Thanks

This may sound crazy but try jumping on them.Up and down.I had the same problem and took it to the Dealership and they said it was from the bars and the Tech jumped up and down on them to show me and when I drove home the noise stopped lol

Sounds like you need thighten the body mount bolts. I got rid of my thumps. But mine are not westin. Some cheap ebay ones.

The body mount bolts. Mine creaked and groaned until I tightened them.

I've heard a romour about thise. What it is is, the mounting bolts that screw to the truck, it's moving. You need to make you some rubber washers and install them between the bracket and the chassis.

That should solve your issue.

I had the same problem. The middle support bar was rubbing against the collar that surrounds the body mount bolt. I had to take a grinder and slightly buzz down the collar, which solved the problem. Also, make sure that you torque the body mounts down to the proper specs. If you don't have a torque wrench, borrow one.

I had the same popping noise. Tightening the bolts did not help for me. If you look at the stock bolts they are rounded off and have no threads at the end. I bought two bolts that are the same size, but have threads all the way to the end. These have worked like a charm, no more popping when you turn.

Triki Dick is right! My mother in law had the same problem when she purchased her westin tubes the trucks were pretty new then and it was the first set for the installersn on these models, she took it back and they installed the rubber washers end of problem.

Just get a torque wrench and make sure they are tightened correctly. I installed exact same bars and had the popping noise. Got my torque wrench back from my buddy tighten them to spec and no more popping.
