Transmission Problems

I went to get my oil changed today and the guy that was changing it came up to me and asked me to come out...he showed me my tranny oil(dirty) and new tranny oil(very clean) and i said yeah i think ill get it changed at my friends shop. Then he told me that it was a quart low. I just got a tune and have been driving my truck like a mad man. So I guess what im asking is why would it be a quart low? Is there a leak? Theres no puddles or anything under my truck so where did the fluid go? Could it be something about the cold weather? Any explanations? Another question that i know has been asked on here before is what should I do either drop the pan change the filter. Or get a flush? I talked to two shops and a dealer and all have different opinions. I believe i have the 4l60e tranny but im not positive. Thanks in advanced for your help!

I just bought my truck with 169,000 miles on it and I did them both, dropped the pan and changed the filter(had the wrong one it it, by the way), then flushed it because I changed over to Amsoil synthetic tranny fluid. I'm about to drop the pan again and add a Corvette servo and, of course, refill it with Amsoil tranny fluid getting closer to 100% synthetic.

I've been driving the wheels off my truck since I got my relearn done to the wait4me and I havn't noticed any difference in fluid levels. Did you verify the fluid level yourself or did they just mention it to you?

Did they measure the fluid level correctly? There is a warm way to do it and a cold way. Your driving style won't affect the transmission fluid level at all. Do you have maintenance records for the transmission? I've never been a fan of flushes, so i'd do a pan drop and filter change.

well i just checked it now that i have time and its over filled by a quart! looks like these guys are dumbasses....or at the time they checked the levels a quart was MIA so tomorrow i get to take it back and say hey...theres now an extra quart in here...so if you could take it out that would be great! jack

I stopped going to these oil change places for the exact reasons you stated in your first post. Last time I went they come out with a drop of my tranny fluid, and they say "look, it's black, and it should look like this" only to show me brand new tranny fluid. Then they came out with power steering fluid and do the same thing. So I ask the guy how much it is to replace the power steering fluid, (just to be a wise guy, i wasn't gonna change it) and he says 89.95. I ask, "what are you freaking nuts, 89.95 to change something that i've never heard of anyone changing, and is nowhere in the owners manual that it needs changing". These places have become a joke, and sorry sir, but they told you it was low, and you took there word for it, added a quart, and now you have a quart too much in there. Ask for your money back too.

dealership.....that is where I'd go for them to check it out (under warranty).... unless you boiled the fluid away (transmission would be dead), they lied to you.

Every time my wife gets her oil changed the quick lube (whoever) guys try to sell her a $25 air filter, even after I had recently replaced the filter. I stuck a K&N sticker on the filter box. No problem.

I have seen and verified a engine overfilled by at least 3 quarts,We think 2 different guys added oil ,not knowing the other guy already added the oil.....never trust these quick lube places
