Trans Cooler Question.

Does anybody know how much actual pressure there is in the lines going to and from a transmission cooler? I just did a supercool radiator upgrade on my Jeep and the lower line is just a clamp on rubber line. I'd hate for it to blow off going down the freeway. What kind of pressure is present there? Is it just enough to circulate the trans fluid or is it higher than that? Anybody know?

(I know the Jeep isn't a GM but the question is the same regardless of what kind of vehicle it is so cut me some slack OK?)

My last pick up I had hose clamped transmission cooler for 13 years with out any problems.

I put an aftermarket (Hayden) tranny cooler on my 1989 GMC and drove it trouble free for 9+ years. It had the hose-clamped rubber lines.

Jim, one of the Techs could tell us for sure but I think the max pres those line would see is less than 60 PSI. I have run add on aux coolers on 7 or 8 vehicles and never had an issue with a leak at a clamp. In fact, many FWD vehicles come from the factory with clamps.

You wil not have any problems.

always double clamp if your not sure........I have seen a line blow off a cheap addon cooler,I guess it was raining hard and the lady didnt notice the smoke out the back of the truck..after 2 blocks the trans was empty and cooked...over $2000 to replace

..better to be safe than sorry

Thanks for the input guys. I did add another clamp to the line. I also attached the rubber line to the metal one next to it near the connection so there wouldn't be any tension on it. I guess the worst case scenario would be a small fluid leak somewhere down the road.

I drove it about 100 miles today with no issues. I sure wish it had screw type connections on both lines. One is clamped and one is a metal line with a fitting. The metal line has no barbs or anything on it... just slick metal. I'll keep an eye on it.
