Ugh...hood Won't Close

I popped the hood open and the handle didn't go back after I pulled it.

 

Now the handle seems loose inside the truck. cable is still attached.

 

I can't get the hood to close for the life of me. WD40'd the whole assembly and even tried pushing down on the cable with a wrench next to the hood latch.

 

No luck.

 

Any suggestions?

have someone hold the lever inside the cab all the way open and you should be able to move the lock on the hood opened and closed. Make sure it s in the open postion.

It looks to be in the open position. It just won't grab. I think the cable is sticking inside the sleeve.

It could also be the latch is stuck open, and not the cable.

I'll stick a heater on it tonight and give it a rubbing alcohol bath.

My dad had that happen to mine while changing my air filter for me the other day. He did a quick combination of some blows taps and shaking to get my latch to let go, dont pound on the hood, but see if you can jimmy it open, my father seems to be able to do well with the stuck latches, and tail gates, as I cant ever get them open once their stuck.
