Rear Differential Lock

I noticed the rearend makes a grinding noise when I get in loose snow, only when its in 2wd. It grinds then when the rear locks up then the grind stops????

This happened to a friend of mines 06 yesterday. we were in alittle bit of mud and when his g80 locked it made the most god awful noise that i ever heard. He said that someone told him they had heard it before, and we did some wet grass burnouts to see and it never did it again. this was many thousand miles ago, so my question is this. could a g80 grenade and still be mostly drivable? i wouldnt think so but after the noises i heard yesterday i can believe it even moves. it made my ears sad. sucks because he grandpas the truck.

yea that can be considered 'normal'. do what the guy said, a small burn out or a strong launch should make it go away......

The G80 engagement on my truck has been quite loud in the snow. Heck, at least I know it works.
