Gas Pump Troubles

Has anybody else had any issues at gas pumps when using the lock lever to fill up? Whenever I try, it disengages only a few seconds after like it was full. I know its not a problem but in the wintertime it is really annoying. Its almost like the filler neck is at the wrong angle or something. Just wondering if its my gas station or its like this all over. Never have a problem with any other vehicles.

I sometimes have this problem when I try to fill my tank up as well. What I do is just pull the pump handle out of the tank a little bit, then it will fill as normal.

The only time I can recall having this problem is if the pump handle is not straight up and down. For example, if the fuel hose is pulling the handle slightly to the left or right. It'll run about 2 seconds (if that) and then shut off. "Usually," if I can get the pump handle straight up and down, I don't have that problem.

Same here,Funny thing is that I go to the same gas station, pull in the same way,and use the same pump, yet still sometimes I have that issue and sometimes I don't :)

But like S-Ten said...I just pull the nozzle out a little bit, about an inch, and its fine.

Same here.

I think it may be the manufacturer of the pumps or the flow rate or both.

I also have this happen on my new truck... It's a pain. I can usually move the handle a few times and get a spot where it will work but I haven't ever had this issue with any of my ither vehicles.

Pull it out some. Happens to me at pumps where the rubber boot on the nozzle slides down over the inlet. I think it makes it where not enough air can escape fast enough.

It's not the flow rate. I normally fuel from a tank on a tower and my flow rate is a LOT faster than the pump and it goes in just fine but it's a plain nozzle with no boot.

I don't have any trouble with my 2000 Z71, but I have the same trouble with my 07 Crown Vic. It really sucks too with as many miles that I am putting on it.

I think it is because of the anti-siphoning device in the newer model vehicles. If my informant is correct it is shaped like a ball and the gas may be hitting it just right where the pressure it telling the pump the tank is full.

Premature fuelus-interuptus is not that big of an issue in Mid-Georgia. It seems that the risk of having too much customer joy has necessitated either the removal of the fillup lock or at least the non-replacement of them at most of the stations I frequent. I end up jamming the gas cap under the handle for unattended fueling. This allows for only about 3/4 flow rate, and not a kickoff problem.

However, I must marvel at the accuracy of the cutoff-when-full aspect of the GMT900, at least mine. You generally can't add another dime's worth (and nowadays that ain't much) of fuel after cutoff. My GMT400 can take another dollar.

Most of the stations around here have the lock lever removed so I shove the gas cap under the handle. I have no problems with it shutting off, because like stated above it's only like 3/4 flow.

Good to know I'm not the only one though I feel sorry for the others. Trouble is the hoses are so long and stiff in the winter and they don't bend or move well enough to jockey into a usable position. Oh well. I'm convinced that if somebody opened a gas station with walls to stop cold wind from whipping through the pump area, people would travel out of their way to fillup there. I know I would.

My truck is getting really frustrating. The problem is getting worse. I need to fill it very slowly or the pump shuts off. I tried pulling it out some and it helped a little. I've tried different gas stations and still the same problem. This is getting really annoying. I know some ford products have TSBs for this issue. Any idea what is causing this with GM products?
