5.3l Vs 6.0l Max

Is there really a big difference on everyday driving between the 5.3l and the 6.0l?? I am looking at both of them to purchase. I will only be towing a maximum of 3000lbs. What do you guys think? I have drivin the 6.2l and it is way crazy fast and powerful. Don't need all that.

The 5.3L will return far better fuel economy and handle the 3,000lbs very easily.

I have a 6.0 in my 1 ton work van, and I think its a great motor. The truck is loaded all the time with prolly 3,000 lbs of tools and equipment, not to mention the ladder rack. It averages about 12 mpg like that. 105,000 miles on the clock and nothing done to it. Still has plenty passing power too. I say go with the 6.0

If gas mileage isn't an issue with you go with the 6.0. You won't regret it. My 6.0 returns a range of 11-12 (when towing ~10K) to 15 (all highway). Hope this makes your decision a little easier.

FWIW, even with the huge hit in the pocket the gas mileage did to me, I still don't think I could have done better. . .unless I started looking at a D-max.

My buddy got a 6.0 max in a half ton ext cab, and it screams compared to my 6.0 in my 03 crew 1500hd and he gets 17mpg on the highway lightly loaded. I would go with the Max and not limit yourself, if i knew what i know now, when i purchased my truck i would have stepped up to the big block.

Definately the 6.0 I've driven a 5.3 sivlerado before and my avalanche is way faster, especially with the cold air intake. Still thinking about an exhaust though. The 6.0 with a couple upgrades will get you close to the 6.2 and with much better economy.

I would definitely go with the 6.0 Vmax if you're going with a half ton. I've owned both (2003 EC with 5.3, 2007 CC NBS with Vmax) and there is no comparison. I drove both the 5.3 and 6.0 Vmax CC models at the dealer before I purchased and the Vmax was much stronger. The mileage ratings on the sticker are the same for 5.3 and 6.0 for 2007 Crew Cab models (15/19). I'm getting 13 with pure city driving, 17.5 pure highway and average 15 with an Edge Evo programmer on the highest power setting. I'm not sure how that mileage compares to 5.3 mileage (in the real world).

ask and ye shall recieve ...

2007 GMT900 - CrewCab - 5.3 w/AFM : air-aid intake tube with Edge on Extreme - i am getting approx 14.5 city

Ok, so that's better than what I'm getting. I think its worth the extra gas $$ for the extra power of the 6.0, but I only drive about 10k miles per year.

6.0L will be much much stronger but suck down gas, 5.3L will still do good in power but not as good, and get 3 or so mpg better. 6.0Ls sure sound great though!

This is posted in the HD forum where 6.0 is the smallest engine you can get so may not be much advise on the 5.3. It is hard to compare the gas consumption because most 6.0s are in HD trucks. These are much heavier trucks than the 5.3 1500s. I think the difference in gas mileage is do to the additional weight of the vehicle it is installed in and not the 6.0 vs 5.3.

More power is always better.

true, very good point. I noticed some NBS trucks with the 5.3L would get a couple mpgs better than with the VortecMax though
