Should I Buy An Nbs?

I need your advice. I am considering buying a new truck. Not so much because I need to, but because maybe I'd like to. I have an 05 Sierra Ext Cab with 56000km on it. Bought the 05 in August of 06, employee pricing, zero percent, plus a $2000 discount. It's loaded. Nothing has gone wrong with this truck, it works great. It has the aluminum 5.3 and I've customized it more or less how I like. And it's fast. I have 18 payments left. In the next 4000km I have to buy the extension of the warranty (well I don't have to, but if I keep the truck I will).

Hm. I seem to be talking myself out of something as we speak, but still - I'd like your opinions.

I have my eye on a loaded 4 door black with the tan interior. The dealer is offering me a good price and GM has a couple of discounts on right now. Trade in values are pretty good, I'll get $25,500 for my truck.

The net effect is I trade mine in and sign up for 36 payments where I had 18. At 1.9% not 0% like I have now. But I get a brand new truck for that. I love the new interiors, but I'm a bit squeamish about the cylinder deactivation.

I wonder - is it worth it or am I just having Christmas Present Withdrawal? I feel as though I should hold out for GM to do something better, like drop their prices (especially with the canuck buck, as they still insist on gouging us up here) and offer zero per cent and not one point nine.

Maybe I should go out and get a dog and a camper instead? 18 payments goes a long way.... And maybe a lift kit and some new tires, and a quad.

I think I talked myself out of it for now. But I still would like your opinions!

Thanks

If you can get $25,000 for your truck I'd do it in a second. With KBB I just confugured an 05 Sierra Xcab with 4X4 ,Z71, leather and power everything and it goes for 16-18K for trade in rated good.

Dealers tend to offer fair to good for trade ins and many use the black book which nets you much less than KBB.

It's a tough call when you get the bug to buy new. One thing that you really need to consider is the cost of customizing the new truck like you want it. Looks like you have a really nice truck already too.

I'm no fan of spending 1500 bucks on an extended warranty that you might never use. These trucks are pretty darn reliable... especially if you have had good luck with it this far. I say put that money away just in case something bites it and move on.

Good luck! :D

2008 GMC Sierra Regular Cab Long Bed 4x4 WT.

I don't like payments. It's been 28 years since I purchased a new truck. A few used trucks here and there.

One really has to do the math. How much in real dollars will this cost you? And for how long.

The new truck is light years ahead of my 1990 1500.

I suffer from 'impulse' buying. I have to watch myself. Constantly. In my younger days, I purchased 5 new vehicles in 7 years. A little too much, I think. After that, it was used vehicles until 2008 for the GMC Sierra.

any decision in life based only on the math or money will probably be the wrong descision. Other than that wisdom, :D the cylinder deactivation can be deleted by a tune.

I am on my 8th new vehicle since 2000. I can assure you math (or logic) really didn't enter into the purchases. We just like switching our vehicles out every 1 to 2 years... Money is of course always a consideration to some degree... we don't all have the same bank balances so it's more important to some than others.

Funny though... there are always those vehicles that become a part of the family. We still have the Jeep. We kept Fred the 01 Silverado until early last year. And then there was the 07 Titan that stayed here for 4.5 months before being sold to a buddy that just had to have it... Thank goodness for him!

Are you stating that emotions are involved in the purchase of a new truck or such?

I was wondering where all that anxiety came from before and after I purchased this new 2008 GMC.

Did I get the right engine? Axle? Color? Options? Tires? Wheels/Rims? Payments? Should I have waited until the 2009 new Ford F150 is introduced?

Don't forget that's 56000 kilometers not miles. That would be 33,600 miles. And I have the sunroof. But this dealer is a friend and I'm sure theyre not selling to me to make a pile of money but to get Marko driving a new truck around town!

However, I am currently driving this one. I really like the Soft 8's for my winter tires! Thankfully all that will come with if I buy a new truck.

And by the way, the dog's happening one way or another!

id wait it out, there are some cool stuff coming out for the silvy/sierra in the coming years. 6 speeds, 6.2 vmax (no more 6.0), a 4.5L diesel, and the two mode hybrid just to name a few.

If you plan to USE your truck for anything other than a daily driver, you might try this for a test between your current GM and the new GM. Pull up beside a new GM or Chevy, park parallel to it two to three feet away. Stand between the two vehicles and with your fist on the side of the bed of both vehicles at at the same time, press and see which one flexes first. The 08s have thinner sheet metal than the 02-07 classics like yours. The entire truck, IMO, has been cheapened with items such as thinner sheet metal, cheaper seats, more plastic, etc., but at the same time they've improved other areas of the truck. Please, for the guys who own 2008 models and love them, this is not meant to excite you fellas as much as to give my opinion. Some of you hated the classics and love the 2008 model and that's just fine too. It's just for me the 2008 seems to have thinner or less than the classic.

If I were you, I'd keep the truck for a few more years and use the money you would have spent on the 2008 for a vacation with the family or a new toy (4wheeler, snowmachine, tools for the garage or just a really good dog). :D

I won't disagree with you on the exterior sheet metal, however, how does that come into play with "using your truck like a truck"? I would think the greatly improved fully boxed frame and significant drivetrain improvements (at least on the 6.0) would fit that category moreso than exterior sheet metal and interior materials.

With that said, I would keep your truck for a few more years. It is a fine truck.

Would personally keep what you have now unless there was something about the new truck that you need for your lifestyle. I really like my '07 NBS and for me it was worth the wait to keep my '97 C1500 until the 900's came out. But, I would not trade a very late model "Classic" just to have a NBS unless the configuration no longer met my truck needs. In fact, I would probably still have my '97 if it were a 4X4.

Also, that extended warranty is usually a waste of money. Put the same cash in the bank. You will be much farther ahead financially with broader repair choices if something does break out of warranty. Good luck with your choice.

If someone sits in your bed and sits on the rail it will flex/collapse on the new trucks.....if you use it for work someone will always sit in the back of the truck.

I x2 what the original quote said about using your truck for work. No way, no shape, no how can GM keep making the NNBS for people who "work" their truck for a living.

A rancher? The smallest bump from a pissed off cow will destroy your bed due to flex - the same bump on the old one would have been a dent.

A lot of people actually buy a truck and use it like a truck - it's a foregin concept to 90% of truck buyers nowdays who think people who use their truck for work use it on the highway 99% of the time.

The frame might hold up great, however if you load the NNBS with odd shaped stuff in the bed - even with a liner or a bed mat it will dent the bed - NOT THROWING it in there, just hauling it around. I hauled about 600 pounds in a NNBS on a bed mat in cardboard boxes spread evenly thru the truck.....some of the ridges in the bed are flattened.

There's a reason the new GM/Chevy truck gets better gas mileage than all the other trucks...weight.

I agree 1000%. I have an '07 NNBS. If I had it to do it all over again I would have paid extra to get an '07 classic (which wasn't available locally) instead of the new body style. I just don't see any way this thing will last with any use at all, mechanically or the body.
