Off-center Steering Wheel

Just an interesting observation and another "why, GM?" kinda thing.

I have noticed that when I park my truck, the driver side front tire is always closer to the line than the rear tire. I always thought that it was possibly due to the front track being wider than the rear. But, it struck me today, when I remembered someone saying the steering wheels are slightly left of center in relation to the instrument cluster. Then, I realized I'm actually sitting slightly left of the steering wheel, too. Visually drawing a straight line from the center of the seat, up through the GMC logo on the wheel and onto the road, the line ends a few degrees right of the direction the truck is actually going.

But, why? Things like this, and the ridiculous brake light switch design, just puzzle me.

CAREFUL!

You're going to give half of the people on this forum a complex!

LOL true.

About 2 or 3 years ago we had a topic on this about the 800's being off. And several guys including me, came to realise that that's why we have some lower back problems, from sitting square in the seat but tilting our bodies to be square with the wheel, or sitting in the seat to far to one side so it raises your hip up.

I just realised yesterday that I sit to the side of the seat with one hip higher than the other, but didnt connect it to being a design thing.... Now I'm worried, I'll call my doc ASAP!

I thought it was just me. With my old 96, I could easily park it exactly square in any parking stall. Now, it's more of a guess. Sometimes I wind up close to one of the lines, often slightly sideways. For me, it's the hood sight lines.

call me stupid, but I dont get it.................

O.K......Hey "Stupid", why don't you get it ? :) Sorry couldn't resist.

I know that my 94 is the same way...when planted in the seat, your are to the left.

That's why I know have the "Detroit Lean";) LOL

I dont get simply because I never noticed it (I guess).........then again, I always park in reverse (I will never pull into a parking space).......

:) i find it funny that if we were to see a woman park her surburban/truck/etc off center in a spot then its her fault because she's a woman.

but if we can't park straight then it's obviously a fault in the truck's design.

We're simply pointing out the most likely possibility in the aforementioned instance.

So, should lesbians be good parkers? :)

Hmmm.

Darn straight! We take the blame for everything else.
