What Would It Be Worth If....?

I bought an '88 C1500 with the 5.7L...got a great price but it needs lots of work. I'm picking up an engine & tranny for it tomorrow and it needs some other work. Figure I'll reseal the 80K mile engine/tranny and paint it up nice and drop it in the truck (with 98K) with a tune up, new exhaust, fluids changed, etc. My wife is wanting to know if I'm wasting my money...I don't think so but I haven't figured out what it would be worth with the body left alone and running good. The hood is a different color, cab corners are rusted, and the bed has a decent amount of rust and dents. The rest of the cab and front clip are really nice though.

Also, what would it be worth if I put a different bed on it, patched the cab corners, and painted it?

Thanks,

Derek

Yeah I don't know where you are, but with snow on the ground likely if it were 4x4 it would be worth a lot more. Here in NH that truck with bad body good drivetrain might get you $700-900. With fixed body $1500-1800 tops.

I'm in Kansas. I've seen a lot of the older body style 2wds running around for $1200-2000. Usually $2K will buy you a straight truck with minimal rust but the paint is shot...good paint pushes you closer to $2500. Never really priced this body style though.
