I am looking to buy a new radar detector and im wondering if anyone knows anything about the Escort 8500 x50?

is it worth it?

what is the big deal about the blue lights over the red?

thanks :bs:

I've got one, and it works great.

Blue is only a preference, but the blue LED's cost more so they charge more for those (that's what they say anyway).

I don't know what the heck is wrong with me today. I don't have an Escort 8500. I've got a Beltronics RX65. For some reason I was thinking they were the same one.

They basically are. . .the RX65 is made by escort as well and contains the same components . . BEL and Escort are the same company.

I personally love my 8500 x50. The only ones I would rather get over it is the 9500i (with GPS enabled so false alerts don’t go off once you store them) or the BEL STi . . which has the best range of any of the others and can be used in Virginia and DC (has "stealth" technology that makes it undetectable to radar-detector-detectors) The bell also has a great build quality.

Whatever you do don’t fall for the Valentine ploy. They are oversensitive and have terrible performance in comparison to these other 3 (the 8500x50, 9500i and STi).

Side note >> I hate how this forum's reply boxes won’t work with firefox's spellcheck :bs:

Ahhhhhh...HA! I wasn't smoking crack that day!

And Firefox's spell checker works for me on this board. Weird.

I got one about 2 weeks ago. I love it, it can be usb updated with new gps locations, you can mark new speed traps so that it reminds you every time you come within a half a mile of where you marked..and it will tell you how many feet until you're at the exact position that you had marked in the first place, and as mentioned before you can filter out false alarms. I had an 8500 in blue and loved it, if they come out with a blue version of the 9500 anytime soon i'll be pissed.

I have an Escort 8500 X50, and it never picks up the laser radars. I got a tickets from a laser. I will pick up laser from the airport and from site workers that use lasers to grade, but no police laser. Has anyone else had this problem?

I actually have 2, 1 in my truck and 1 in my wife Edge. The both work the same, and need servicing.

Police laser only has something like less than an 18" spread at 300' or so...And they aim it at your front plate/bumper. If they aimed it at the center of your windshield, it would pick it up.

Laser is...Well...Since it's totally instant-on...Even IF your detector detected it instantly, you're already busted. In other words, with laser, you're screwed no matter what.
