Exhaust?

Most of the premade exhaust's especially from Borla, Corsa, Magnaflow, and select Gibsons are made of Stainless steel making them much more corrosion proof than an aluminum flowmaster and aluminum tubing from a muffler shop. There is nothing wrong with muffler shop exhuast's I have one one my other truck with a flowmaster 40 series that has held up to 2 michigan winters but there is rust forming. Also i'm not sure of the warranty's for Borla or Corsa but my magnaflow on my Sierra has a lifetime warranty. And most of the higher end exhuast's have a more refined sound to them but flowmaster has a bunch of different models as well in terms of tone.

That would be aluminized steel, not aluminum. I just want to correct that so that somebody does not get confused. It is a coating to help prevent rust.

I have had a Flowmaster for four years now and it has held up OK, but there is a lot of rust.

I notice everybody is runnin the borla and corsa catbacks. What advantages do these kits have over a dummy dual flowmaster and runnin your tips anyway you want at the local muffler shop?

I didn't run Flowmasters on mine, but I did do a true-dual setup on mine. In my experience, I think you'd do well to find a good, local muffler guy who's been doing it for a long time. Go in, tell him what kind of results you want and let him make suggestions for what he thinks will work out to give you what you want. That's what I did with mine and I couldn't be happier. Here's a link to what I did with mine and a link to how it sounds.

Best of luck to you! Let us know what you come up with! Pictures and sound files appreciated! :puke:

i might just swap out the muffler with a magnaflow one and go from there - the stock pipes are good quality so dont think I would dump the whole system

Well I dont think rust here in Texas will be an issue for me, not anytime soon at least. I always forget to use that search button sorry about that guys. I guys I will have to just go with the flowmaster set up. Dont see any point in spending that much money for something that doesnt add power. Guess I'll use the money I saved on not buyin Corsa or Borla to get my cold air and tune. :puke:

Unless you live out by the coast in TX. Plenty of rusted out mufflers over there.

I'm up in north PA & we get salty winters, but that didn't stop me from getting the system I wanted ( true dual Flowmaster Super 44s ) Mufflers are covered with a 3yr warranty, and the pipes are for 1 year. So its ok for me, I'll most likely be painting underneith in summer so i'll get it covered with heat treated paint. Heres some pics of it from new to now

So far its just a little surface rusty on the welds of the pipes to inlet/outlets, and slightly around the inlet/outlet welds on the mufflers themselves.

& cant forget the most important thing, a sound clip

MHEFFE LOl I saw what you wrote in another post about it so that shot down my idea - So I called my friend here in Tampa who is a HI - Per shop and a Corsa / Borla Dealer so he is going to get me dealer price on both and see which one I want - plus my muffler has been dooing the loud pinng even after the TSB fix and it drives me nuts! So I am going to just do the whole catback ordeal !!
