Was anything changed on the 6.6 liter Duramax engine going from the '07 model year into the '08?

Are both year models designed to run on ultra low sulfur fuel?

I don't know but a salesman was telling me how quiet they were. Maybe he was saying that because GM made it quieter in '08.

Anybody?

'07 was the LBZ and '08 is the LMM. Not sure what the differences are, I think it's mainly computer stuff though. I'm pretty sure both were designed to run on ULSD, and have the DPF, but don't quote me on it.

Like stated above '07 Classics were the older pre-emission LBZ. However There are '07.5 New Body Style LMM 6.6 Duramaxes with the horrible little contraption called a Diesel Particulate Filter (aka DPF) ULSD requirement as well as even more EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). '07.5 NBS LMM's are the same as the '08's. Hope this helped

The LMM mileage is way down due to all the emissions crap, mainly the DPF; when that thing regenerates is uses major amounts of fuel. You can remove the DPF but I'm not sure how much the mileage increases though.

I have an LMM and I am getting currently about 19 MPG and I just have a tad over 200 miles on the truck. What am I supposed to be getting?

Just kidding, I have no idea what the mileage impact is. I was looking at a truck very similar to yours this week (new leftover '07 extended cab). Unfortunately, even with a $ 8K discount off the sticker, the price is still around $37k and my '06 Z71 resale value is not nearly as good as it shoudl be. For the difference I would have to pay I can buy a new Silverado work truck with 4.8 V8.

I just traded a 4.8 Sierra in on this one. It was an 07 - liked the truck but wanted the diesel as this is probably my last one so get one that I can get 20 years out of.

Most get between 15-17MPG in the winter 18-20 in the summer. Hand calculating makes a difference vs. the DIC.

On the "Diesel Place" page most are claiming about 5 to 8 miles per gallon difference between the LBZ and the LMM.

I also went with the LBZ for mileage and also because of the exhaust getting really hot when the engine goes into regen mode. There also seems to be more warranty issues if you make changes to the LMM.

I am sure the LMM is fine though.............I just found a ultra clean LBZ truck that I just fell in love with.
