96 S-10 Hoodlatch Stuck

The hood latch on my S-10 is stuck. When I pull the release inside the cab the tension feels normal but when I get to the end of the levers rang of motion the hood has not released. I tried operating the lever/ cable while pushing up and down on the hood ( there is about 1/4" to 3/8" play) with no luck. I sprayed some penetrating oil on it and will try again tomorrow. If this fails should I disassemble the latch/ cable assembly in the cab and pull harder directly on the cable , bypassing the fragil plastic lever? Any helpful hints for hopeful heros would be appreciated. Thanks

Have someone lifting up on the hood while you operate the cable release. Sounds like the spring on the hood iscollapsed and not pushing the hood up and away from the 1st latch. It could be mis aligned also. If you can remove the grill then you can get to the hood latch mech and remove it, lift the hood slightly and manually release the hood from the latch with a screwdriver.

I have this same problem with my Jimmy. After pulling the release, the hood dosent pop up, I usually have to pull up on the drivers front corner, It pops open fine. The little spring is all rusted to hell. Gotta love Ohio salt. Anyone know if we can put a new spring in, or do I have to put in a whole new latch (I realy dont want to do the latter). I'm just leaving it like it is for now, not a big deal.
