nakedicarus Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I've scheduled an appointment with the dealer to take my truck in for warranty repairs on what apparently are warped rotors; but lately I've also been noticing something like a chirping belt when I start the truck in the mornings (the chirping sound goes away after the engine has warmed up). Is this something normal for these engines, or does it sound like something the technician should take a look at as well? 2007 Silverado 4x4, LMG (iron block) 5.3L FlexFuel, 4.10 gears, 6500 miles.
bassadict69 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I have an '02 that does the same thing...I have a thread around here somewhere asking the same question but cannot find it. Seems the most common reply was that it was the idler pulley or tensioner ( I think)
jlcallaway Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 I fought the same chirping sound forever on my 2001 2500 HD 8.1. GM replaced the belts six times, aligned the sheaves, replaced the tensioner, etc. None helped. I was at an independent shop one day and they said lets carefully and accurately try aligning the sheaves and found one that was off slightly. It was adjusted and the end to the chirping. I don't know if yours is the same or not but worth a try. JoJoJim

I finally bought a Gator back belt by Good Year and it is quiet as a church mouse.
