Just a update and a heads up to any one lifting their Truck or putting on bigger tires:

 

6 Instrument control cluster repairs, Two different dealers and finally 3 weeks with out my Truck straight to try to fix my Speedo. Turns out in the process of the dealer replacing the Fuse box my Truck was equipped with a so called "Speed Transponder Box" that was wired into my Fuse box to compensate for my 33" tires on my Truck, which was put in when the Truck was new by a Chevy dealer in Vegas so my speedo would adjust to the new tire size. This Part is not a Chevy approved part and is not under warranty. Only got charged $75 to have it removed and my Programmer tells my computer the new tire size any way so no worries there.

 

Note: The dealer that removed the after market part is not the same dealer who put it in, I'm states away from Vegas now.

 

Recommend any one getting upgrades done on their Truck like a lift and tires not get this so called Speed Transponder. It only lasted 25,000 miles of driving and has caused me a huge pain since summer trying to find out why my speedo pegs at zero 50% of the time. My Pride and joy is now fixed and I can't wait to get back to work to tell all them GM haters who have been talking crap for months that it was a after market part causing the issue not a GM part...

wtf, never seen one of those installed for that. all it takes is a lil editing in the computers to change the speedo calibration. sounds liek the shop tyhat did the work was crappy

Yeah, what's up with that? Every GM dealer should have a tech 2 or equivalent device that can compensate for larger diameter tires. Normally during a reflash it even asks them what size tires you have. And even if they didn't, virtually every handheld on the market is capable of doing that.

I was just as shocked, almost sounded made up! The dealer was going to give me back my Truck still unfixed because of it until I told him to just take the d**n thing out. My programmer tells the comp what size tires I'm running any way so I have no need for it to be left in when it is causing the speedo to crap out. Sent the Dealership I bought the truck from a letter about the part the Dealer in this state claims was in my truck and the issue it was causing after 25,000 miles.
